Mountain Retreat with private pool. Walk to bar/basic shop. WIFI . Great Value.
Private mountain setting with exclusive-use swimming pool - a great value base for exploring the Garfagnana and northern Tuscany.
Situated in the heart of the Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca, Gialla Casciana is a two-bedroom property offering the opportunity to enjoy a private mountain setting - complete with exclusive use of a private swimming pool - at a competitive price point.
The house is located within a 15-minute walk of a small historic village with a bar and basic shop, where you can also order bread or enjoy a home-cooked meal. A larger village with shops and everyday facilities is just a couple of minutes' drive away.
Inside:
Arranged on one level, the property provides simple, practical accommodation with an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge/freezer and microwave.
There are two bedrooms - one double and one twin - together with a bathroom featuring both bathtub and separate shower cubicle.
WIFI
Outside:
Guests have use of a good-sized private garden and a covered dining area, and a BBQ ideal for al fresco meals. Steps lead from here to the private swimming pool area, which enjoys lovely views. The pool is 10M x 5M
A little about the area:
Whilst very rural, Gialla Casciana is situated just 900m from an ancient traditional Italian mountain village with a bar/shop - ideal for essentials or sitting with a drink or home-made meal and taking in local life.
If you enjoy walking, the larger village of Piazza al Serchio can be reached on foot by crossing the River Serchio. The walk is approximately 2.5km and very hilly, but offers lovely views and shaded sections along the way. By car, it is just a 5-minute drive over the river, where you will find traditional shops, a supermarket, a small Tuesday morning market, bars, restaurants, a river and a train station for easy exploring.
Driving 10 minutes in the opposite direction brings you to the village of Camporgiano, with restaurants, supermarket, bars, pizzeria, train station and a private castle.
The local market town of Castelnuovo is a 25-minute drive, whilst the popular medieval town of Barga is approximately 40 minutes away. The historic walled city of Lucca can be reached in around 1 hour 10 minutes, Pisa in approximately 90 minutes, and Florence in around 2 hours. The famous Wind Caves are a 45-minute drive.
Closer to home there are many historic villages to explore, often hosting local festas during the summer months. Nearby attractions include Lake Gramolazzo for swimming or boat hire, Vagli with its zip wire and submerged village, the Fortress at Verrucole with interactive activities for children, and the Buffardello tree climbing and zip wire park - ideal for families wishing to enjoy a day in the shade of the forest.
The real beauty of this area lies in its dramatic mountain scenery, peaceful atmosphere and the opportunity to experience a non-touristy holiday in rural Tuscany.
Please note: Automated distance information can be misleading in rural areas. Although some places may appear close “as the crow flies,” walking routes are often impractical. A car is needed for access to restaurants, shopping and local amenities (apart from the village bar detailed above).

Nice house with lots of privacy
Paolo was very helpful showing us the way to the house and inviting us to use vegetables from the garden behind the house.
The house is very nice, completely equipped (dishwasher, washing machine etc.), spacious and very clean.
It is on a quiet road; especially on the backside you have lots of privacy.
The pool is great and there is a lot of space for children to play.
The only disadvantage we could think of, is that there are no shops or restaurants nearby; you always need to go by car.
Thank You so much for having us! We really enjoyed our stay and were pleasently surprised by how well the whole terrotory was maintained. The pool is very large and deep enough to swim around, also very clean and refreshing - probably our favourite feature of the house. The rooms were also very clean and comfortable, and the house stays nice and cool even on the hottest days. Also, the WiFi connection was surprisingly good!
You do need to take into account that if you wish to eat out, we highly recommend driving there because even the closest restaurants are pretty far and the roads are quite steep.
All in all, a great place to enjoy your vacation, especially if you prefer the peace and quiet.

Peace and quiet in the Tuscan mountains
We spent a month enjoying this lovely retreat and using it as a base for occasional trips to other parts of Tuscany. It is quite remote, about half a mile from the nearest small village but we could hear the neighbours chickens sometimes, though we couldn’t see them. A car is essential, there are lots of interesting and beautiful places to visit within a 15mile radius but significantly the local railway station is only 10 minutes away by car and Tuscany is then your oyster. The villa is will equipped, although basic, gas stove, electric water heating and lighting and a wonderful fire necessary in the late September evenings.
The owner, Paolo, was contactable and very anxious and prompt to help in any way he could, for example when the internet failed he solved the problem within a few hours. We were invited to help ourselves to the wonderful produce in the garden attached to the villa.
The house sits by the side of a quiet road in a chestnut forest, it’s close to nature but also close to lots of history and the railway to wherever you’d like to be in Tuscany.
It already started with the contact with Lorraine and colleague. They were great, the booking was made real quick, the information was clear, our questions were answered very fast.
We arrived way to early because we figured we should see where the house was, and then do our groceries and drink coffee some place, so we didn't have to search for the house at the last minute. Unfortunately there was a small error in the discription so we couldn't find it. When asking a random Italian lady she was so sweet to immediately call the number of Paolo (that was on our information sheet) and he came to get us. That wasn't exactly what we aimed for, since we were way to early, but at least now we knew where it was. We went to do groceries and Paolo (the owner) finished getting the house ready an hour early, so that was very kind.
The house itself is also great. Although there are 'only' 2 bedrooms, the house and the rooms are not exactly small. Everything is very spacious. Everything you need is there, dishwasher, washing machine, all kinds if kitchen supplies. It's very complete and clean.
And then, the garden, the pool; gosh, the kids (boys, 3 and 5 years old) loved it. We also did by the way ;-) There is so much space around the house! Every morning we went on a small trip and every afternoon we were in the pool. It was very hot when we were there so the pool made sure we stayed cool!
I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
Casa SUPER in tutto.....tranquillità, privacy,relax.......consigliata a chi cerca pace.
Proprietari molto simpatici e disponibili.
La piscina fantastica......

The villa is wonderful. Amazing location in the hills, fantastic pool and outdoor space, comfortable traditional interior. Everything you need in the kitchen to prepare Tuscan meals. Piazza Al Serchio is within walking distance with good amenities, supermarket and train station. Local food and wine is superb and very good value. We cannot wait to return.
