As a key worker I booked online money was taken , we received an email direct from the hotel confirming our booking. we arrived after a 5 hour drive to find the hotel closed! Not happy with never book again.
Convenient place to stop on a journey north on the M6. On the main road a short distance from the motorway .

shame
I have stayed here twice before and it’s always been very nice, this time though we had a very noisy fan right outside the bedroom window that buzzed away till after 10, then the people next door used the loo and their fan then ran on for about 30 mins with the whole thing starting again at 7 am. Really bad view from the room too. Staff really very nice with a nice bar area, breakfast was a kind 5/10 and that was a real shame because the breakfast in my previous stays was really good. Make sure your not staying in room 4.......
We had a lovely room. Very nice and clean. The owners were so friendly and made us very welcome. We will definitely go back again. There’s a good restaurant and a nice bar too as well as plenty parking.
The Queens is a fantastic place!
Jenny and Ade made me feel welcome from the moment I walked through the door.
The food is excellent (seriously, try a pie!), the beer is very well-kept, the room was clean and the bed comfortable.
When I'm next in this neck of the woods, I'll be disappointed if the Queens is fully booked. However, I wouldn't be surprised!
We really enjoyed our stay at The Queens. The room we had was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us. There was a good choice for breakfast, I recommend the Full Cumbrian! Both nights we stayed we ate in the restaurant and again there was a good choice and the food was really tasty and the service spot on. My only criticism is that the bedrooms needed refreshing decoratively, but The Queens had only recently been taken over by Jenny so she needs time to put her stamp on things. Beautiful place, lovely people, smashing stay despite the weather. Highly recommended.
We ordered a twin room but when speaking to the staff they were happy to change the beds to singles no problem. We ended up changing rooms to a bigger one as well which they had no problems with.
Firstly, I'd like to say that the temporary manager made us feel very welcome so my comments to follow are no reflection on him. The negative comments are based on the room in which we stayed. We were in room 3 which was small and would've been fine apart from the fact that it was so stuffy. It had been a warm day but even so, there was no air and opening the window didnt improve that. Sadly, having the window open and shut for that matter still didn't help with the loud, constant noise from a large flute that came from the kitchen. That only stopped after midnight. The tiny bathroom was pretty grim. Damp stains on the floor, very tired decor and not even a shelf to put a toothbrush on. I don't think I've been in a smaller, less inviting bathroom. I'm so pleased we were there for 1 night. Credit where it's due though, the food was reasonable apart from the coffee at breakfast. I've never tasted worse, water that looked brown, decent coffee doesn't cost a lot. I couldn't recommend this hotel but with a bit of investment the standards could really be improved.
This was our first small inn experience and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly & accommodating. The rooms were cosy, the pub and dining room had a friendly small village feeling and there were little special touches everywhere. The food was something else. From the full English breakfast to the fish & chips the beef pie and the sticky toffee dessert were all top notch. We will never let anyone malign English cooking after this experience.

The bedroom was spacious and clean but there was an awful smell in the room. It was reported but nothing was done about it.
On leaving the hotel I was told that the owners were reviewing the cleaning products they were using!
Stayed en route for 1 night only travelling from Scotland back south. Near enough to motorway but not so near for motorway noise. Excellent staff and exceptional food which could be described as gastro pub quality but reasonably priced. Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend!
The Queens is a great English pub, resturant, and hotel. The accommodations are nice. Quaint. The owner and her staff are wonderful. The food is good. Breakfast is good and plentiful. This has been the most fun stay of our trip so far.
Brief stop over for one night. Hotel was easy to find and room was comfortable and clean. There was a bit of noise from the kitchen until the restaurant closed. We felt sorry for bar maid who was running around doing everthing. She checked us in showed us to our room. Served at bar and was waitressing. Felt sorry for her. Breakfast was delicious and much better managed
We found It on the website and had little expectation but it proved to be a great ace for old pals to meet up. Lovely friendly staff, rooms furnished stylishly and breakfast really good! Quality foods and good selection of beers. Nice beer garden and bar. Definitely worth a visit!
Excellent in every way. Emily and Dee have a welcoming, warm and professional approach. The food was delicious. Good quality produce and cooked really well. Thank you to all the staff.
Bedrooms were clean and well presented with comfortable bed. We had an evening meal and breakfast, both were prepared to a high standard and very tasty. Lovely atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. All staff members were welcoming and engaging in conversation, ensuring that we were looked after.
Will definitely be returning to The Queens should I ever be back in the area, will also recommend to others.
Great stay in a warm pub at a fair price. Breakfast was brilliant. The bar manager from Blackpool made it for us though, exceptional service.

The property had a nice county feel to it, rooms were clean but the facilities were not up to scratch.
After a 7 hour drive the first thing I wanted to do when I arrived was have a shower. The pressure was none existent. When I reported this down to reception my response was to wait an hour or so until most of the work was done in the kitchen.
It’s as if they have extended new rooms into the property but haven’t upgraded the water situation.
At one point later on when I finnaly had my shower it came to a halt halfway through, managing to position myself into the drips of the shower to get rid of the shampoo in my hair.
This wasn’t the cheapest room in the area, I paid the extra pennies to stay away from the chain hotels and have a nice country feel stay over.
On second thoughts I should of went with something central.
