Perched on smoky Suck Creek Mountain, Whippoorwill Cabin is the perfect cozy nook for hiking fanatics and families with snuggly kiddos ready to explore and unwind. Imagine waking up in a loft bed, stepping outside to breathe in fresh forest air, and ending your day with hot outdoor showers under a sky full of stars.
Trails through Prentice Cooper State Forest are just next door, perfect for little explorers and grown-up adventurers alike. Prefer to paddle? Grab a kayak and jump in the rapids in Suck Creek. Nature here is your playground!
The Space
Whippoorwill is one of four charming cabins in our “Songbird Neighborhood” at Talking Water Nature Retreat, a family-run escape spread across 82 acres of mountain magic. Since April 2022, we’ve been restoring the land and creating a place where families and friends can connect, relax, and make memories.
Our cabins sleep 6 guests each, with plenty of space for family fun and quiet moments. Each cabin includes:
Comfy sleeping spots (including a cozy king-bed loft!)

Indoor bathrooms and refreshing outdoor showers

Full kitchens and outdoor grills ready for campfire cookouts

Porches, patios, and decks — perfect for marshmallow roasts, storytime, or morning coffee

Cozy extras like electric fireplaces, small TVs, and WiFi

Right in the middle is the Songbird Pavilion, with an outdoor kitchen, firepit, games, and even a slide for the kiddos to burn off energy. Laundry and extras are close by in the garage.
Rent just Whippoorwill or book the whole neighborhood for a big family reunion or group getaway.
Guest Access
Your stay includes the cabin and its outdoor spaces, plus shared access to the pavilion and laundry facilities.
You’ll have two parking spots right at the cabin, and we’re happy to help with more if you need them.
Sleeping Arrangements
Loft with a cozy king bed (perfect for parents or grown-ups)

Full-sized sleeper couch (great for kids or extra guests)

Two hammock hooks with cotton hammocks included — great for fun naps or starry nights!

Pets
Pets are welcome with prior approval. Here’s what to know:
A pet fee applies. We offer a 50% “honesty discount” when you notify us in advance

The full $100 fee applies if pets are undeclared or unpaid before arrival

Pets must be crated when unattended (crates available on request)

Guests are responsible for cleanup and any damage
