It's a 14th century castle, so authentic, the service & the ambience were exceptional. David & Dean in reception were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble. All the other staff were also outstanding & the food was delicious.
Simply beautiful and the staff were great at the reception. I met 2 Andrew’s and David and they were very helpful.
Breakfast was good although the staff seemed less friendly when requested a different table for breakfast and announced it loudly. Something to note when guests make a discrete request- please keep it discrete.
True castle atmosphere. There was a college prom going on the night we arrived which added to the fun. We enjoyed a meal in the dinning room. Excellent food and service. Room was a little stuffy but we were able to open a window. Would definitely stay again.
The hotel is a delightful experience. It is in a quiet location overlooking Chester-le-Street, but within walking distance of the town and Riverside Park.
The room was comfortable and clean. The decor is in keeping with the theme of the castle, and well maintained.
Reception, bar and restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choices are extensive and the restaurant caters for vegan and GF diners.
Lumley Castle is my first choice for staying in the Newcastle area; it never disappoints.
The hotel is well positioned and presented, occupying a strategic location overlooking the town.
The room occupied was on par for the standard of the hotel, albeit the slope of the floor in the shower made you feel as though you might tumble out of the shower.
The restaurant felt somewhat cramped with tables sited at both ground level and on raised platforms, which gave the impression of either looking down on other diners or being watched.
The staff were polite and professional with the food offering good.
Beautiful place to stay, comfortable, clean quiet and lovely gardens, castle itself is stunning visually, but seemed a little tired in places, corridors and entrances understand lots of footfall but perhaps a fresh scrub and some paint touch up. We had high tea and Prosecco and decided to stay overnight, as it was my birthday.still a very lovely place to stay.
Lumley Castle is steeped in history. The layout of the communal rooms is a little random and not brilliantly signposted. Staff are all very helpful. Restaurant was good quality. Breakfast good. The rooms lack a few amenities like usb or even plugs by the bed. Soap and shampoo is all that is provided in the bathrooms, which is unusual for a more luxury branded hotel. All small things but would make a difference. but overall it was a very pleasant stay.
Had a lovely overnight stay for my special birthday. Beautiful afternoon tea with helpful staff. Room was oldie and so comfortable - had a lovely nights' sleep and was woken up by the dawn chorus.
Gorgeous! Definitely 10/10
I have used this hotel very often in the past
But I was shocked how there
Standards have dropped.
The flood was very poor the service very poor. The lack of singning for there different areas none existent.
The room very nice for normal users but for some disabled like me it was a night mare. There was a lack handrails in the shower the shower was fixed and did not detach from the fitted so was to high,
Lack of places to put soap bags had to put them on the floor. The radiators were so hot they could not be touched. The wheelchair ramps although provided were not legal.
Sorry I could go on got pages on how is this hotel this hotel should not be graded.and no I will never use it again.
They are living on the fact they are a castle but forgot the required needs of its guests.

Liked: Staff & service, amenities
Staff were excellent. Room a lot smaller than expected. Bedding and en-suite very clean. Room in need of updating/decotation. Parking facilities were very poor.
Have visited Lumley on many occasions and have been very happy. On this occasion, we were a bit disappointed with the room which was in the stable block. Although it was quite large, the windows did not close property, outlook from window very poor and room was very noisy as people going up and downstairs - the staircase was right next to room. Staff were very nice and bar food good. Would stay again but wouldn't want the same room.
Beautiful building, fantastic surroundings. Very clean. Great selection and beautiful food. Very friendly and helpful staff. 100% recommended and we will be back.
