WE ARE LOCATED in the Appalachian Foothills of Southern Ohio. Our 70 acre property offers high rock cliffs, deep gorges, and hidden caves. View picturesque nature from over three miles of clearly marked, scenic trails. Come, getaway at Liberty Retreat!

NO ADDED FEES. Our nightly rate includes all we offer. We don't nickel & dime you with additional fees. It's all included at LIBERTY RETREAT. Everyone really seems to like it.

CARETAKER'S COTTAGE, originally built in the 1960's, was totally refurbished in 2021 with comfort and relaxation in mind. Caretaker's Cottage displays rustic charm with all the modern conveniences.

AFTER A DAY of interacting with the great outdoors, indulge by soaking your cares away in our amazing private hot tub. Play your favorite tunes on our Bluetooth outdoor speakers. Perfect for romantic escapes, anniversaries, birthdays, honeymoons or any other reason to just ... getaway

IN THE EVENING, start with a crackling fire. Listen to the soothing sounds of owls, tree frogs and whippoorwills as you view the innumerable stars in the night sky. We love it here. We know you will too.

WE LIVE HERE on the property. Our home is located about 250' from the cottage. The cottage is semi secluded & due to the foliage we can barely see it, but we're close enough to help if you need something. You may see us out doing yard work, but other than that, we stay out of sight.

PLEASE READ our Company Policies. This serves as our Rental Agreement. You acknowledge this at booking. Please take the time to read it. If you can't find it, please ask. We'll send a copy. You will be required to acknowledge our policies, complete and sign our liability waiver at check in.

Lovely Retreat

Beautiful, well kept cabin on a lovely wooded property. My niece and I enjoyed grilling dinner and relaxing in the hot tub. We had a quiet getaway. We also explored a winery and other nearby towns. We also hiked trails on the property. The cabin was well stocked with paper products, utensils, dishes, games and movies.

Great Getaway

A beautiful and clean space. A perfect location away from the hustle of the city but close enough for any needs. The black stone and hot tub were nice amenities that added much ease and relaxation to our stay as well as all the special touches, such as the welcome sign and basket! Overall the property and the trails were beautiful!

Cozy home away from home

A cozy cabin, with a kitchen to cook our dinners, and a hot tub to relax in! We just wanted to get away for a few days. We drove into Jackson a couple times to go to their brewery and coffee shop. We also said hi to the owners dog and cat! Thanks for a great stay.

Perfect getaway!!!!

We had a wonderful stay. Everything was just as described. Mark and Sandy have thought about everything. From the moment we got there to the moment we left it felt like home. Loved having Wednesday and Ellie great us and visit too. The trails right on the property were wonderful. Will definitely visit here again

I have been around the world and stayed in 5 star hotels and resorts, NONE have given me the comfort and convenience as liberty retreat. The house was cozy, the property was beautiful and the host were fantastic! Heck , even the pets were great greeters!!

The cottage is a nice blend of rustic and modern. It was extremely clean and nicely furnished. Lots of special touches like snack basket, bathroom items in case you forgot anything, grill tools and even an apron. You can't got wrong staying here.

Peaceful Retreat

We had a wonderful stay! We hiked around the forest property, went to hocking hills, found a few local restaurants within 30 minutes, and felt very safe here. The kitchen was fully stocked, and they even left some snacks for our hungry teenagers! The hosts were very welcoming as we drove by, and very responsive when we used the app. I would definitely recommend!!!

We loved the cottage!

Owners were amazing! We loved this cottage so much. We were there for a girls trip and loved the peacefulness of the property. Hiking is awesome, and those caves! The outdoor shower! Too many wonderful things to list! You won’t be disappointed if you stay at this cottage.

Perfect road trip stop

We stopped for two nights on our way out east to visit friends. It was the perfect way to ease into our first road trip with our almost 1 year old. Cottage was stocked with everything we needed and then some! We had a blast exploring the trails and relaxing and watching the birds on the porch. Easily the best value of any vacation rental we’ve stayed at! Would love to return in the future.

The Perfect Secluded Getaway

We loved this cottage and the surrounding area. It's a gorgeous view, and beautiful hiking trail on the property. On top of that, the little details that the oweners thought of were much appreciated and made our arrival and our stay that much more special. Plenty of privacy and peace. I think we decided within the first 5 minutes of looking around that we definitely want to come back. We hope to soon!

Wonderful Stay!

We stayed at Liberty Retreat for the weekend of my goddaughter’s wedding. It was the perfect place to be able to relax and also prepare for the wedding. We did a bit of hiking the trails, they are well marked. The outdoor shower is a must! We had never tried one before. Everything was as described and better. Pack dog treats for Ellie as she will come and visit you. Wednesday, the cat, was sweet and friendly. Thank you, Mark and Sandy for sharing your home with us!

Quiet and Relaxing

We loved staying at Liberty Retreat; it was about an hour from Hocking Hills and this allowed us to do a lot more exploring vs. staying in Hocking Hills. The cabin was clean and had an open floor concept. The hosts thought of everything. Our boys enjoyed playing Cornhole and disc golf. We enjoyed the ability to cook breakfast and dinner and eat out sparingly. This was a perfect getaway before school starts. Lots of great hiking ❤️

Awesome Place to Stay!

The cabin was exceptionally clean and so nicely designed. Sandy and Mark provide so many little extras to make you feel right at home. My sister and I came for a weekend get away. We enjoyed a nice fire in the fire pit the first night. They provide the firewood and all the fixings for S’mores. We had asked prior to our trip about visiting a winery so they provided us with a bottle of wine from their favorite winery and directions on how to get there. We went to Chillicothe on Saturday and visited Brick Haven Spa for massages (I highly recommend!). It’s only about an hour to Hocking Hills, but there are trails and caves right on the property. Very well appointed kitchen, Blackstone grill, comfortable beds, plush towels. Such a great place and we are looking forward to making this an annual trip and will stay at Liberty Retreat again.

Real getaway

We wanted to have a true getaway from a city life. This one was exactly what we expected. No internet or phone. First arrival night we were sitting by the fire and watching clear sky with "big dipper" (Ursa Major constellation) and five "clicks" down from it the Polaris. This is something that we don's see living in a city. Next day we had explored some local trails that started right at the cabin porch. If you want to try them, get some real GPS, because the phone will not work there most of the time. These are not state park trails. My five year old son had fun running in woods, making marshmallows. Every night we were joined by neighbor's black cat.

Wonderful getaway!

Our stay was so wonderful! Mark and Sandy were great hosts! My best friend and I drove down from Michigan to have a fun girls getaway! We found the house to be beautiful, clean and cozy. Their personal touches all catered to the type of trip we were having were great. Communication was easy and Sandy was so kind! We enjoyed coffee on the front porch watching birds come to the feeders and butterflies come to the flowers. We enjoyed a fire on the back patio along with an outdoor shower each night after hiking! The beds were comfortable and I loved the little lamp by the bedside! They even provide a plug with usb for charging devices! Nice soft towels were provided for showering! The kitchen was stocked with everyday kitchen needs and the black stone grill was so nice to have! Sandy gave us many recommendations for things to do and where to go! We met their lab ellie and she was sweet! We never did even turn on the tv we enjoyed our time outdoors so much! We fully recommend this beautiful hidden gem to anyone looking! We traveled into hocking hills twice during our stay, it was about an hour drive but the drive was beautiful and we didn’t mind the distance at all!
