Our stay in the Carolinas
1 Not a good neighborhood 2 house was not clean 3 roaches 4 couch and chairs were very uncomfortable 5 grass was tall hadnt looked like it was mowed yet for the season 6 entrance had nothing but big sink holes 7 television in bedroom didnt work 8 very hot in the bedroom . The home was nothing like advertised very rundown needs alot of work
This stay began with an issue and ended with an issue. We arrived around dinner time on Saturday but were unable to have hot water until mid morning Monday. The plumber commented “this has been burned out for some time they haven’t had hot water for a while.”
This leads to the thought that in a time of Covid how did they clean this before our arrival after the previous departure? Possible, maybe but from what we can ascertain of the rest of the home cleaning was not a priority. This was absolutely the dirtiest place I’ve ever rented. My time here was kept to a minimum.
On Tuesday morning the city of Columbia came at 8:30 in the morning to turn the water off again to change out the meter. This was not the fault of the owner but certainly contributed to the issues.
Midway through the week the Internet went down which presented two issues 1. I was trying to teach virtual class 2. the thermostat is controlled by the Wi-Fi. The temperature immediately went up to the mid 80s and I’m sure higher I left to teach the class elsewhere.
The grass and weeds were midcalf to knee-high at checkin time so we were unable to walk our small dog out front or outback. Noone ever arrived to cut the grass at all throughout the week. The complex itself was very dirty with trash, empty medicine bottles and soda bottles all about.
In the house itself the cleanliness or lack there of was surprising for VRBO quality expectancy‘s. The garbage disposal switch was broken so we were unable to turn it on. There was no indication of such and we had already attempted to use it. We spent the rest of the week with gnats in the kitchen from the food we could not get back out of the garbage disposal. Inside the refrigerator there was a smell when you pulled out the vegetable drawer there was a pile of molding old food across the bottom below the drawers. The walls were very dirty and the showerhead was caked with dirt and minerals from the water. It was obvious they were other pets they had been in the house before us from the volume of dog hair underneath beds that came flying about when we had to turn the ceiling fan on when the air conditioner went off. It’s very clear there has not been fresh paint on any walls in many many years. The biggest issue of all were the number of palmetto bugs that scattered in the living room when lights went on. If we could’ve found a single place to stay other than this through the week we would have moved.
