Come explore what Southern Illinois has to offer for your next family getaway! The "GATE HOUSE AT THE LAKE" has it all! 3 bedrooms with 1 king bed (master), 1 queen bed (2nd bedroom), 2 queen beds (brand new 3rd bedroom), 2 pull out queen sleepersofas (family room), 1.5 baths, Beautiful great room with screened in back porch, Dock with electricity, Beautiful Lake Views facing the main lake channel, Fire Pit, Wifi, Outdoor Grill, garage, Washer/Dryer, Flat Screen TV's/DVD player, Direct TV including the Sports Package, Fully stocked (just bring food and toiletries), all new furniture. The home is on one level with only one step to get into the home. The land is flat to the dock with no steps!!!!

The house has been freshly painted, brand new A/C, new kitchen cabinets and countertop, and new tile on the patio. New front exterior and new third bedroom are now complete in 2021!!!!!!!!!

There is dedicated internet for each of our guest homes!!!! 6 mbps down and 1 mbps up and also a second line that is shared between our 3 homes that is an additional 6 mbps down and 1 mbps up!!!

We also rent the house directly next door which has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and sleeps 8 also (vrbo 710693)!!! And we have another home just down the street with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths (vrbo 9134691ha)! Ask about renting multiple homes for a discount!!!! All of our homes are located at the mid point of the lake. See the attached photo showing the location of all our rental homes at the lake.

Boat rentals are available around the lake. Check out https://lakeofegyptpontoonrentals.com and tell them Roman sent you!!!

Macks Marina and Egyptian Hills Marina also have boat rentals and you can launch your boat from both of them and also Pyramid Acres for a small fee.

We do provide two kayaks and two paddleboards for each home. Please bring your own life vests as we do not provide those.

We do require a $100 Damage Deposit. This will be returned to you immediately upon our cleaning team reporting no damage, no excess cleaning, and no excess trash.

Overall very nice. Listed as 1.5 bath only has 1. Also listed with king and queen beds. They are all full beds. Other than that no problems.

It was just what we needed for the break

The house was beautiful and enough room for everyone. The kids loved the dock and fishing. Wish we knew it was a private lake and we needed a boat for other fishing. Overall it was still a wonderful time.

Good place to stay while exploring Shawnee NF

Pros: Easy check-in, accurate description, good communication, big living area, satellite tv for kids, kayaks, lake front and price. Cons: no sheets for hide-a-beds (I’m sure we could have requested some but kids had sleeping bags), limited towels (I’m sure we could have asked for more but we made due), outdoor deck and furniture had not been cleaned from winter (we swept and cleaned so we could enjoy the 70 degree weather) Overall, my family, my father and my brother all enjoyed our stay. We loved exploring the National Forest!

Peaceful

The living room is very large, bathrooms were updated. Bedrooms not very big and kitchen is small. The deck outside is good size which includes a screened in sun room however outside tables and sun room tables needed to be wiped off. Overall I would recommend this property.

We rented the property for our bachelor/bachelorette party. The house on the outside was dirty, the screened in porch had spiderwebs and floor hadn’t been swept. The back deck is falling apart, someone almost fell through it. The grill was disgusting, never been cleaned. Floors were sticky, doors kept getting stuck and were tricky to open, the floors by the bathroom were soft. Overall the house needs some work done but we still had a good time

Lake of egypt trip 2023

overall the house and views of lake was great. There was no can opener or basic condiments like salt pepper. The blue kayak ropes are dry rotted and has a hole in bottom. We found out about hole upon going out on lake and kayak filled up with water. Also the bathrooms have a sewer problem backing up and monday morning not working. Called it into office. Overall the setup was perfect and views outstanding.

Property Not As Advertised; Major Safety Fiasco

We have stayed in this property before and while it’s never clean, it does have Lake access without many steps, a nice screened in porch, and kayaks. We just clean when we get there. However, this year we arrived and found that the second bathroom (the half bath of the 1.5 bath listed) was locked and had a sign on it that said “utility closet.” We know this was a misrepresentation since we have stayed there before. This bath is important for our group of nine as we have mixed families, older folks, younger folks, and I don’t want to send my tween daughter into the bath when her grandfather is showering. We needed the extra half bath. The management should have disclosed in advance since they admitted they knew. When I reached out for a solution, they offered for us to use a bathroom of a house that the owner also rents next door. I accepted the solution, even though it was not what we paid for. The next day when we went in at 6:30 am to use the bathroom in this other unit, there were cans on the counter ans people asleep in the beds! We scared the crap out of them by entering a unit with the key the owners had given us. It was quite a scene. Once everyone calmed down, they told us they had been told by the same management company that they could use unit 151B because the refrigerator in their property upstairs wasn’t working. This was a major fail that endangered our safety. Owner refused to offer a partial refund for the fraudulent listing and the danger we encountered.

Lesson learned

The first thing we noticed was the dirty table and chairs in the kitchen. They were so sticky we had to give them a good scrubbing before we could sit down. The kitchen window was extremely dirty. The screen was torn on the outside patio and the furniture out there had to be wiped down too. The decking outside was really dirty and needed a good sweeping. After the first night we noticed little black/brown specs on our sheets. I just thought it was stuff falling off the blanket or something and brushed them off. They appeared the next night as well. On the third night we were getting inquisitive and started googling what it could be. We started taking pics of the spots. On the 4th day one of my sisters started having bites on her. We hadn’t left the house except to go on the deck so we weren’t sure what was causing the bites. We started checking the mattresses and sheets and found more specs and red smear spots on one of the mattresses which looked like blood. At that time we started checking all the mattresses and couch cushions and found lots of dirt, crud and hair. We also found lots of dirt and hair under the beds and furniture. On the fifth day, I notified the owner of our concerns and he said he would check them out on Monday. The house needs a really good cleaning and need to spray for bugs/spiders. The tiles on the kitchen floor were sticking up and caused us to trip. Nice view of lake. Internet was good. We know to check beds first thing next time we rent.wont return

Best location on the lake!

This property and the adjacent properties with the same owner are the best ones on the lake! We noticed many others had a LOT of stairs to walk up and down to get to the lake and boat dock. We're so glad this one was just steps away with a small incline. Check-in and check-out were easy and smooth. Worth noting: the main listing says one of the beds is a king, but later in the details, it does say they're all queens. I would suggest correcting that. The view from the great room is gorgeous! We LOVED the kayaks and paddleboards and used them often. We had an amazing time making memories and would stay here again, but with one caveat - a few things are in need of repair. Because the owner probably does not stay here often, if at all, I hope this list will be taken in the spirit of helpfulness in which it's intended: 1) Major safety hazard: the railing around the deck in the back is broken in at least 3 places. In one spot, it's completely separated and someone could easily lean against it and fall to the ground 2) There is a large burn area on the same railing where someone put the grill too close. I took a pic and tried to send it as soon as we checked in so we weren't held responsible for it, but I couldn't send a picture through Vrbo messaging. 3) A previous guest mentioned no sheets for the pullouts, and that is still the case. We found a mattress protector and some pillowcases, but that was it. 4) Investing in a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink would save on future plumbing bills 5) Several areas on the floor in different rooms feel a bit warped or like the subfloor is not stable. 6) The deck is warped (must be underneath because it's a composite deck and I didn't think those warped) and the area right outside of the sliding glass door developed its own mini Lake of Egypt when we got heavy rain one day. I have to assume that water is going into that bedroom and soaking the subfloor (we didn't see any water on the actual floor) 7) The whole place could really use a deep clean, including a good scrub on all the pots and pans. We appreciated the kitchen items, but they were greasy and had to be cleaned before we could use anything. The nonstick surface is flaking off the pans. 8) Not a big deal, but the WIFI needs a booster or something. For a place this big, it could not handle more than 2-3 phones before the signal was severely degraded. Again, in all, we had an AMAZING time! The great room is perfect for gathering and playing games

Nice place

This is a nice place to stay is a little worn. But overall clean, great view, plenty of room. Kayaks are shared with 3 other properties but is enough for everyone. We had a great experience.

Large area to hang out nice view of sunset

This house is advertised as able to sleep 10, but if you have ten you’d be constantly fighting over the one bathroom. It was 100 a night so it was definitely worth it, but I wouldn’t pay anymore. Beds were fine. Deck was not cleaned off. It also looked like a DIY cheap remodel. That being said, for 100 a night, and if you want a fishing cabin for the guys this is a good pick. It has a nice dock for your boat also.

Great Views of Sunset over Lake of Egypt

We watched sunsets and paddled kayaks when at the house. Daily we hiked trails at Garden of the Gods, Ferne Cliffe, and Giant City. House was roomy. We were fine with 1 bath because only 3 of us.Host was great.

Lovely Lake View and Access

This lakeside home was a nice get away. Star/Sky watching, gorgeous lake, Fern Clyffe State Park has trails, including wooded trail circling lake and walks to a natural waterfall. Enjoyed the quiet and wildlife.

Group of old friends booked a duck hunting trip and loved our 4 day stay at Egypt Lake
