"We stayed at Green Smithy Cottage for two weeks and had a wonderful holiday. The cottage is very well laid out and clean. The kitchen is properly equipped. It includes a bright room with a dining table. You sit there very well. The living room is large with good seating. The two bathrooms are modern and work well. The bedrooms and beds are very o.k. "A group of 10 ageing from 20 - 74. We all loved the house, lots of space and homely. The projector room was fantastic for movie nights and the games room went down a treat. The house was warm, plenty of hot water, the welvoming pack was an added bonus. We had no problems and would definately recommend as a big group. More kitchen utensils would have been better as the pans werent big enough and also we couldnt all sit in the lounges together as not enough settees.- we managed. Its a fabulous...

Strathmore Hotel

2/10 Terrible

"I have already told the hotel management where the hotel does not meet the standards I would expect. Comparing my experience of the present hotel with my experience when it was a Shearings. The breakfast was a disgrace, the carpets throughout are badly stained, the paintwork is very tired being dirty and scuffed all over, the outside paved area requires weeding and jet washing, bed very uncomfortable, no bathmat. The only redeeming feature was the welcome by the receptionist on arrival."

"The hotel is lovely. We arrived to find we had been upgraded from the snug to a double bedroom with a view which was lovely. But disappointed not to have a bath even after an upgrade though. There are a lot of stairs to get anywhere, which was fine but worth noting. There is access to the lake outside via a path and some stairs which is lovely. The spa was great but as they are doing some work on it the outside bit wasn't available. This was fine as we were alerted to this, but there were also no changing facilities which we were not made aware of until we arrived. This meant walking through the hotel in the very snug dressing gown and slippers they provided, which was not ideal. It also meant that you could not access the spa after checking out as there was nowhere.to change, which wss a shame. All the staff were brilliant and the restaurant/bar/lounge area was great. We were not overly impressed with the food though. I didn't want much for tea and fancied the goats cheese balls off the small bites menu, but they had run out. So I ordered fish goujons and was presented with a pile of fish fingers - not very gourmet and definitely over priced! At breakfast we were asked for our cooked order before we had sat down and it arrived before we had chance to make the toast. We both had poached eggs which were a little undercooked, which was a shame. The continental selection was good though. Overall, a nice stay and we would return but would probably not have our tea there."

"A stunning facility in a rural property in belies the quality of this place. Check in was painless, efficient and helpful with clear directions to our room, once there WOW. Walked into a very large room with more space one would expect in a 5 star establishment. Big comfortable bed, really good bathroom and kitchen to boot. If we were going to stay in the area this would be the place to choose. Had dinner there and service was lovely, food plentiful and tasty and a pre dinner drink in the bar was greatly appreciated. Lawns and gardens immaculate and delightful to wonder around. Only concern are the narrow roads leading to the property but one must remember it is rural England so careful driving is advised."
