Easy process, great location to hit all the hot spots in the area and close to downtown Custer. Family enjoyed the main room and outdoor deck with fire pit.
This was a great house with a great location. It does sit right on a pretty busy highway, so there was some traffic noise, but the location to Custer (2 minutes) and the property outweighed that. We watched the July 4th fireworks from one of the rock formations behind the house and it was fabulous. We had a great time exploring the backyard and enjoying the views. The house had everything we needed and was a great home base for our trip that included Custer SP, Wind Cave and Jewel Cave, plus a dinner trip to Hill City.
Home is extremely comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed sitting around the fire pit on the front deck at night. My dog loved the open space of the yard. The house is fully stocked of everything you would need on vacation. Town is right around the corner and it’s only 20-30 minutes from all the attractions.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Location was great but house was not
Spend some time and look for another place to rent or bring your own cleaning supplies. Walking into this house you can feel (and see) the grime and pet hair. We were told that only one cleaner was available to clean after the previous tenant however the amount of dirt, food, and anything else you could imagine that was on the floors clearly was from overtime of not cleaning. Pillow cases were dirty, bathroom floor/rugs were disgusting, upstairs shower not only leaks, but the amount of grime on the walls, door, and faucet tell me it hasn’t been cleaned in some time. Not a good setting for smaller children; ledges along stairs with big openings. Upstairs bedroom has no working light in it. Utilized the bbq and nearly burnt the place down because of the amount of crud built up in it.
Was able to check in a little early since our drive out went better than expected with two boys under two. Nice size cabin with a spacious yard. Not very kid friendly but we made it work. Had a blast and made lots of memories.
This house was perfect for our stay with extended family. There are 3 levels so each couple had private space as well as community space on the main level. Be aware that there are only 2 working bathrooms at this time. The kitchen was well stocked and there were plenty of towels. Location was convenient to town of Custer and Custer State Park.
My group enjoyed our 8-night stay in this property, which is centrally located in Custer as a great home base for exploring the Black Hills. The host was gracious and accommodating and easy to work with. We had easy access to Custer State Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Wind Cave National Park, Crazy Horse, and Mount Rushmore each within a 25 minute drive (or less). We also made day trips out to Devil's Tower National Monument and Deadwood, which took longer but were certainly still doable if planned for.
The kitchen was well-stocked, which is something we appreciated as we cooked most of our meals ourselves there on the property. The kids had a great time exploring the grounds and using the trampoline and air hockey table.
For clarification, the layout of the home is a little unorthodox. There is one bedroom in the basement, which being below ground does a good job of staying cool. It is adjacent to a bathroom that was closed for renovation during the time we were there. If access to a third bathroom is important to you, you should seek clarification from the host as to the status of the basement bathroom. The laundry room and the game room/den are also in the basement. On the main floor is where you'll find the master bedroom and bathroom, the kitchen and pantry, the entry hall/coffee service area, the dining room, and the main living room.
The unorthodox layout of the place is mostly about the upstairs floor. There is a bathroom at the top of the landing, and on either side of that is a bedroom that is open loft style, meaning that the upstairs bedrooms each have one upper wall that opens up onto the living room below. While each of these loft bedrooms have their own doors that can be closed on the second floor landing, they will always be part of the space shared with the lights and sounds of the main living area and kitchen. You may wish to take this arrangement under consideration if your group doesn't intend to all go to bed around the same time. As for my group, it didn't matter very much and we adapted to the situation without any problems.
The deck outside was spacious and we were treated to some spectacular sunsets and lovely views of the night sky. At times, the nearby highway was a sound nuisance, but it would not be enough to dissuade us from staying here again (we weren't here during the motorcycle rally in Sturgis however, if that changes your calculus).
We would definitely consider staying here again.
Miranda was great to work with! Very quick to respond anytime I had a question. The biggest issue we had was screens for the doors and windows were missing on quite a few.
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. At the time of our stay only two full bathrooms were available. We had 9 in our group and enjoyed easy access to many of the atv trails around Custer. We would recommend this property as there was great parking and easy access to local amenities. Our complaints were the car noise off of highway 385.
This house was perfect for our family vacation. Everything we wanted to do, was within a few miles. We even made use of the grill out front. Overall, it was a great stay and Miranda was a great hostess! We will be back!
This location is fantastic, just off hiway a short distance and yet isolated enough to have a very peaceful time. The small hills (outcroppings) in back yard are wonderful for adventurous kids and adults. Rasberry bushes were ripe and ready for anyone who enjoys a snack when climbing. Fire pit in back was just right for quiet adult time and this property had enough room for all 8 of us even with one bathroom out of commision. Deffinetly worth the price.
We enjoyed our stay in Custer and made quite a lot of fun memories! This property is very close to town so it was convenient to get to and from the things we wanted to see and do. Although it was 100+ degrees most days we were in the area, and the house does not have air conditioning, the owners provided numerous fans which helped cool the house down especially in the evening. The lack of screens (without holes) on windows and doors was a bit of an issue but we made it work.
Two of our stops in Custer that were our favorites were The Purple Pie Place and Pounding Fathers! Our daughter is from Ukraine and we found out the owner of The Purple Pie Place is also from Ukraine (they have amazing ice cream)! We had dinner at Pounding Fathers which is a brewery not far from the house. Very awesome service, live music and the food was great! We spent a day at Rush Mountain riding the coaster and exploring the cave. We took our Old Time photo in Keystone and shopped all the shops along the street. We loved Holy Terror mini golf and Mount Rushmore! We swam at Legion Lake on the hottest day after driving the Wildlife Loop and finding multiple herds of bison and the wild burrows! We drove both Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road-super fun and awesome! We also spent a day in Deadwood and watched a shootout before having dinner at Saloon 10 (delicious-and famous)!
Overall our trip was fast and very busy. The house was nice. It is on a busy road which if you’re not used to listening to traffic at night could be different (we live in the woods with minimal traffic so it was very different for us)! The property is well maintained and has a nice fire pit area in the back (we didn’t use it but it looks relaxing). Sitting on the big front porch after the sun went down was relaxing and a fun way for all of us to unwind and talk about our day. Miranda is very easy to communicate with and answered all messages we had promptly.
We had a great vacation with friends and family at this beautiful property. It’s roomy with a great dec overlooking the highway going into Custer. The kids had a ton of fun with the trampoline and games. It was a very kid friendly experience. The location is close enough to town that you can leave at a moment’s notice. Another great thing about the property is the proximity to all of the Black Hills hot spots. Overall highly recommended!
If you’re considering a Black Hills trip that includes places like Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Needles, Wind Cave or any of the other amazing things to do in The Black Hills…you have to consider this home. It was literally 30 minutes from everything!! Well, everything but downtown Custer that is…it was only 3 minutes from there.
The house has its quirks (like no A/C, which made for a hot night as the temps exceeded 90 degrees during one day) and only one true bedroom with 4 walls (the others are lofts), but lots of space for everyone to chill after a busy day. The trampoline and kids bedtime books were an added bonus, as was the coffee bar.
This home is centrally located, so much to do and see in the area. The house is absolutely lovely and we didn’t need for anything during our stay. So glad we chose this property.
