Mount Aso (阿蘇山, Asosan) is an active volcano in the center of Kyushu which most recently erupted in October 2016 but has since calmed down again. Aso's ancient caldera ranks among the world's largest, with a diameter of up to 25 kilometers and a circumference of over 100 kilometers. In the center of the caldera stand the mountain's active volcanic peaks, including Mount Nakadake, shown in this photo.

Due to increased volcanic activity at the time of our visit, a no-entry zone was currently maintained and resulted in the closure of the ropeway, road and hiking trails to the crater. Still, from a distance, we were able to witness this rare display of nature's power.

"ペットと一緒に泊まりました。室内も綺麗で、サウナも入れて、とてもよかったです。　来るまでの道も、ナビの通りでなく、ホームページの下に記載があった地図の通りに行ったら、スムーズに行けました。ただ、山の上なので、携帯が通じない事を知らなくて、ドアのパスワード　スクショしてなかったので、携帯の通じるとこまで、降りないといけませんでした。部屋の中は、Wi-Fiがあるから困らないのですが。困った点は、それぐらいです。また、機会があれば泊まりたいと思います。"
