Staff friendly.
Perfectly clean.
Great choices for breakfast (veggie / healthy / piscy / vegan options especially good and 'full')
Decent 'bathroom (no bath but good shower and everything else good).
Stingy amenities e.g. ONE sachet of hot-chocolate, ONE shampoo / conditioner)
NO tissues,
HEATING OFF OVERNIGHT (as this is a grade 2 listed building I appreciate that windows cannot be double glazed but as secondary glazing wasn't fitted decent heating is a MUST,
NO PARKING as such (off-road course via the back of a council car-park IF no one is in the space where the back wall of the pub is missing AND you have a tiny car with good ground-clearance AND there is space),
TV dangling off the wall and TV was blocked by the post of the cut-down corner post of the bed,
Check-in time different to that advertised on Expedia (manager phoned us a couple of hours before we thought we'd have to check in which meant we had to leave our previous place early and rush to check in).
'Could have done better with a little effort / thought'.

Poor loo paper !
Excellent stay lovely staff two slight niggles, the stairs are quite steep and the quality of the toilet paper was appalling no doubt some bean counter has worked out they can save money Not acceptable in this otherwise lovely friendly hotel.
From the moment we arrived, our hosts were friendly and welcoming and extremely helpful. The room was good and the bed really comfortable, a great nights sleep. Devises has quite a bit to offer, from the shopping, the nightlife and the people in general we found to be friendly and charming. A really great stay and somewhere I will return to.
Well done all at the Black Swan, amazing service.
From walking in the door to handing the room key back the staff at the black Swan were happy to help and chat . The room was exquisite and quaint . And the selection of foods available was fantastic . Thank you for such a relaxing stay
Excellent night at The Black Swan! Quirky, friendly, organised. I stayed in Room 4, lovely bed, linen and a good shower. I swapped my room for a double upon arrival as had booked a twin, which was dealt with quickly and with smiles. There was a vibrant atmosphere in the bar and restaurant throughout the day and of course Devizes didn't dissapointed in terms of having something to keep me occupied. As a single traveller I felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed my little trip. The cooked breakfast was also very good. I would definitely recommend and return!
Spouse and I had an amazing 2 nights staying at the Black Swan Inn. We were looking for a getaway and found this little gem hidden in the Market Place of Devizes. The staff were great and their eagerness to provide a service that enhanced our time there was nothing short of brilliant. The food was and is amazing and for an evening meal, I can really recommend their chicken dish for two to share.
We stayed in room four which wasn't a big room but is in character with this listed building and room sizes of the time. It had, I'm sure, the tallest king size bed in the world and you had to literally climb into bed (I wonder if this is where the saying comes from), it do'es kind of overshadow the room but the comfort of it certainly makes you forget that. The shower is to die for with amazing water pressure and the only thing that would enhance it, would be the addition of a handheld showerhead for those hard to get at places. The only other thing I would add is that a pedestal fan wouldn't go amiss for the summer nights.
Now to the bit that may put off some folk or attract others, the Black Swan Inn is listed as one of the 7 most haunted hotels in Britain, a fact that we were not aware of and more so, we were staying in room 4, the haunted room. This
staff bent over backwards to make our stay a great one, hotel had bags of character as did Shirley!! Loved the live music and jamming sessions but really sorry that Florence and John are leaving and the hotel and bar are to be updated and refurbished.
Really nice old England hotel. Loads of character with big open fire places and old oak beams. Feels like your staying back in time but with all the mode cons like WiFi and power showers. Really enjoyed my stay great atmosphere and welcoming staff plus u get a good full English breakfast in the morning. Will definitely come back for another visit 😉
Great place to stay, very atmospheric and quirky. Room 4 had some interesting antique furniture. The hotel is a feast for the eyes, lots of interesting things to look at. On the Friday we stayed there was a live band, and a mix of people calling in, from young to old. The staff were very helpful , breakfast was great. We were told about ghosts which had been seen at the Hotel. Tis pity it is changing ownership as I fear it will lose its charming quirky character.

Quirky hotel with a difference
If you prefer a space full of history, old paintings and drawings, copper and brass, old furniture, to a clinically white pristine room, then this hotel is for you.
The beds were clean and comfortable, the bathroom clean and equipped, the view out the window fascinating old tiles roofs.
Being right in the middle of town is a bonus.
Interesting, historic building. Excellent food, I would use again.

Interesting Hotel
We stayed at this hotel as we were attending a wedding in Owl Lodge,Lacock. It is 20 minutes away by car.
Our room was outdated but decent for one night stay. Breakfast was excellent and enjoyable. Staff were very friendly. It would have been helpful if we were told upon arrival when check out time was.
A very disappointing experience. I was cycling through the area and just wanted a quiet evening. Sadly the pub was very run down and obviously in transition since it was not even open to the public. The staff were friendly and directed me to a good venue in town for a meal. But there was excessive noise from the bar at midnight and i had to complain. I could not recommend this place.
My partner and I stayed in one of the traveller caravans out the back and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Toilets and shower facilities were inside the pub. This added to the great experience. The landlord is very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Oh, and the food is great. 😀
