We liked the nice touches like a door with blinds in it. The decorating was pleasing and the bed was comfortable. It had wood ceilings and was super cute. Adirondack’s outside encourage conversation with fellow travelers. Unfortunately the internet more often than not did not work and as we are early risers, no coffee when we get up was disappointing. The owners were very nice also.
We only had the pleasure of of staying one night. I fell in love with the whole place. I’m 73 and remember charming little motor lodges across the country in the 50’ and 60’s . You fit the bill on cozy!!! We will come back!!
Cute retro-vibe hotel perfectly situated between Douglas downtown and Saugatuck downtown (we walked to both). The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The owner was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Pines and had a wonderful experience. I did have a few suggestions that might be helpful for future guests.
One small recommendation would be to bring your own coffee mugs or drinking cups. The reusable plastic drinkware provided didn't feel as clean or sanitized as we would have expected, and in today's world, that can make some guests a bit uneasy.
The only other area that stood out was our arrival experience. It wasn't especially warm or welcoming, and I was disappointed to find the gift shop, which I had been looking forward to visiting, in complete disarray. It looked as though it was in the middle of being cleaned, reorganized, or remodeled, which took away from the first impression.
These are relatively minor observations, and they certainly didn't overshadow an otherwise enjoyable stay, but I thought they were worth sharing as constructive feedback.

Great little place in the center of everything. Free parking in front of your room. It was a great place to stay!
We loved the charm and location. It was peaceful and cozy and not a very far drive to downtown Saugatuck. There's a grocery store across the street. We enjoyed sitting outside on courtyard deck and enjoyed the evening music that was played. One night we skipped going out to dinner and ordered pizza and had dinner in the courtyard. We would stay there again!!
This place is a gem. It’s unlike any other lodging we’ve ever stayed in, with retro 50s-60s charm balanced by modern comforts & conveniences. Our room was spacious, immaculate, and cheery, and the Amish bed was super comfortable. Parking was right outside our door, and we loved sitting in the shared patio area a few steps away. Steve is a gracious and affable host, and the Groovy! Groovy! Gift Gallery has items we’d never found in other places but knew we needed :) The Pines Motorlodge is just a short walk from amazing restaurants, shops, and art galleries. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
No breakfast as advertised on Expedia. Coffee only and starts at 9 a.m. Need it earlier than that. Also, no internet and TV might have been affected by it. Only one channel available. Otherwise, it is a very cute and clean property. The owners are very sweet and accommodating. Close to everything, a pleasant walk to Saugatuck. We would stay again. Maybe a commercial prewrapped muffin placed in the room as a breakfast offering. Coffee service at 8?
We were in Michigan for a special event. Like all places, rates go up significantly for big events. I found this motel. It looked nice and was value priced. It was nice. It was really clean, the location was great for our needs. It was the beginning of the season so were very few people in Douglas. We really enjoyed the area.
The beds were comfy. My only complaint was no maid service. I did not expect any but for 3 nights it would have been nice to have the trash taken out.
The rooms were cute.
Steve was very accommodating. A good place to stay.
No one in lobby at check in. Called # and they took care of us right away. Also called with an issue and it was resolved right away.
Very clean but small
Pines Motor Lodge was a quiet, family-friendly place to stay over the Labor Day holiday. Steve is a great proprietor and it became my morning routine to get coffee and have a slice of banana bread in the lobby. Great location within walking distance of downtown Douglas and a few minute car ride to Saugatuck. We loved the 50’s decor, too!
Fun theme and comfortable stay in nice location. Outdoor space makes for a unique gathering place for end of day conviviality

This is a charming little place and we really enjoy staying here whenever we are in this part of Michigan. The receptionist seems like he’d rather be anywhere else but working and is not very friendly. The gift shop is also a mess and full of clutter. Otherwise, we really like it. They provide ice from a cooler and wine openers if you are in need. Parking slots are oddly designed, but convenient. Restaurants and like Phil’s and The Southerner are delicious. For fun, rent a bike and ride around the area and be sure to visit the giant Root beer barrel and enjoy an ice cold, frothy, frosty root beer!
