Top Dover Hotel Reviews

Grand Burstin Hotel Folkestone

Grand Burstin Hotel Folkestone

8/10 Good
"Pros: The room was very clean and had all the bits and bobs you need ( hair dryer, fan, iron, tea making stuff, tv and a fridge). The hotel also provided a travel cot for our baby. The room had a great sea view. The hotel it self is interesting, a bit run down and rough round the edges. There was live entertainment in the “ballroom” every night, which was cringy in an amusing way. The location is excellent. The room price was very reasonable (mid week). It is a budget hotel not a luxury one. Negatives: the front desk is very understaffed, we wanted to extend our stay and had to queue at reception, only to then be told we had to book via a phone attached to the wall. When we used the phone we were quoted £10 more than hotels.com. We then had to queue for another 20mins to get new key cards. There was only 1 receptionist for a hotel with hundreds of rooms. The pool was pleasant enough but you have to pay £4 each every single time you use it (even as a paying guest at the hotel). I think that’s a bit cheeky and I’ve never experienced that in a hotel before. They could at least add a single charge to your room for a pool pass instead. We didn’t have breakfast as I thought it was a little over priced. Over all we enjoyed staying there and will definitely be returning."

"Had a bit of a problem checking in after a mix-up with someone with the same name who had cancelled their booking and our booking ended up being cancelled. However they sorted it all out on the spot and upgraded our room and gave us drink vouchers and we even got a partial refund. Excellent service considering the confusion, staff were so friendly and helpful sorting it all out for us"

"Great little room for a quick stay for 2. There were no issues with the shared bathroom. Very simple stay with a lovely view of Dover Castle. However, there wasn't a proper pen for the check-in/check-out log. Other than that, it was a very easy stay. I'd definitely come back."

"Nicely furnished (Edwardian-style) historic building in relatively quiet part of Dover, conveniently close (15 mins walk) to ferry terminal. Greeted by friendly owner on arrival. Room (I stayed in Patricia) large and clean, with sitting area and tea/coffee. Cooked breakfast no longer an option, but self-service continental-style breakfast provided in fridge including wide variety of fresh fruit, croissants etc: ideal for early morning start. Self-catering possible in small communal kitchen, but pub 2 mins walk away was pleasant and good for dinner. Overall would return, and would recommend to others."
