Set on 35 acres of pristine wilderness, this 3,200-square-foot, Air-Conditioned home offers the perfect blend of tranquility and adventure, with frequent wildlife sightings and direct access to the San Juan National Forest trails. Inside, you'll find a thoughtfully designed interior with cozy-yet-modern furnishings, multiple living spaces, a full gourmet kitchen, and all the comforts of home — from Smart TVs and a ping-pong table to a gas fireplace and work-friendly spaces.

After a day of hiking, skiing, or sightseeing, unwind with a drink on the expansive wraparound deck as the sun dips behind the mountains, or curl up with a book while deer graze nearby. Our home is NOT animal friendly due to allergies and other severe health conditions. This includes service animals in accordance with ADA standards and compliance restrictions related to such conditions.

Guests will be sent a vacation rental agreement by Durango Colorado Vacations (the property manager) to e-sign at the time of booking.

A friendly reminder before you book your stay, is to remember we are trusted to manage independent and family-owned homes. We simply ask that you treat these homes and properties with the same respect that you would expect one to treat yours. Due to a recent uptick in unauthorized guest, pets and gatherings. We are implementing a strict "one strike" policy for any guest that are found having any unauthorized gatherings, pets, or guest with them in the home. Failure to disclose any of the stated above will result in immediate termination of stay with no refund being issued for unused nights.

Please note that most properties are outfitted with outdoor security cameras.

Cancellation Policy:
If your arrival date is within 30 days of booking, payment in full is required at the time of booking. Cancellations or changes that are made more than thirty (30) days in advance of your arrival will receive a 100% refund minus a $250 cancellation fee. Between (29) days and fifteen (15) days before arrival, guest will be refunded 50% of the reservation amount. (14) days or less to arrival, no refunds given.
For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy increases to sixty (60) days prior to the arrival date to receive a 100% refund minus a $250 cancellation fee Cancellations made between thirty-one (31) days in advance of your arrival and (59) days will receive a 50% refund.

Trip insurance is available for purchase and is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

  • We had a great ride on the Durango & Silverton Railroad. Lots of snow melt and some whitewater rapids that were off the scale. Several avalanches have occurred near train lines this Spring. We stopped for a couple hours in Silverton for quick bite to eat and shop. Silverton, CO reminded us of our recent inner passage cruise that stopped in Skagway, Alaska.

Fabulous in every way

My husband I spent 5 months at Shadow's retreat after a flood at our house in San Francisco, while our house was being repaired. Our time here was the silver lining of an otherwise difficult experience. The house is a new, gorgeous, immaculate, quiet, luxurious retreat. Everything about it has been thoughtfully designed for both confort and function. The shower/steam room and tub in the master bathroom are exquisite. The heating and lighting systems are infinitely adjustable and easy to use. And so much more: the big beautiful deck, a functional office space (which I used often because I was working while there), great internet, a big garage...The heart of the town of Durango is just 15 minutes away. A++
