Part#1 - The Museum The Borderland Museum Eichsfeld combines a museum, study centre and outdoor trail along the line of the former border. It occupies the former East German customs building at the crossing point between Duderstadt and Teistungen. The permanent exhibition documents the history of the border in the Eichsfeld region, which was divided between East and West Germany during the Cold War. A trail follows the old border fortifications up to a West German observation tower which was constructed to allow people to look into East Germany.

"Wir haben hier ein tolles Wochenende verbracht. Das Haus ist sehr ungewöhnlich gebaut, hat aber alles was man braucht. Das Wohnzimmer haben wir nicht richtig warm bekommen, haben wir aber auch wenig genutzt. Hervorzuheben sind die sehr guten Matratzen und die sehr nette Verwalterin. Die Region hat viel zu bieten, wir haben sicherlich noch nicht alles gesehen."

Das Haus liegt sehr ruhig und ist idealer Ausgangpunkt für Ausflüge (WeltWald, Fachwerkstädte und natürlich der Brocken). Von den Vermietern wurden wir sehr freundlich empfangen, kurz eingewiesen, und dann war von unserer Seite keine Rückfrage mehr offen. "
