"Nice hotel for a flying visit. Very clean throughout and helpful welcoming staff. Breakfast was good a nice selection. Plenty of parking. Lovely touch with dove hand soap, body wash and shampoo. Only slight criticism is the beds were a little on the hard side as well as pillows quite thick and hard."

"Plenty of Parking. Wonderful old character building. Wonderful staff extremely helpful and dedicated. Our room was very clean. Wooden framed sash windows could benefit from a freshen up with some paint but other than that a perfect stay & amazing value for money. Breakfast in the morning was very well presented & really flavoursome. Good choice of both Continental & full English. We also found Newbury to be a delightful historic town with plenty to offer. Would definitely stay with the Chequers hotel again!"

"Had a peaceful stay. Room clean and well presented. Plug holes and sink outlets could have been cleaner. Welcome staff on evening were very helpful with places to eat and got us some ice-cream when asked. An ice cream machine would be good in foyer. Very convenient parking around the corner. This hotel makes a good base for going out of the area. Sadly the local area has been run down by high retail rents. We did find a good Nepal restaurant momo king. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Staff very attentive and helpful. Even though we sai we weren’t leaving so don’t worry our room was freshened and towels replaced. A good base for a few days . Thank you."

"A really friendly little hotel. Staff were very accommodating. There was a problem in our room but this was dealt with immediately. A huge thank you to the woman on reception who went above and beyond. Would recommend!!"

"I was staying over with work and the reviews were a mixed bag,I found the hallways were a bit worn and dated BUT they have got workmen in working on this,the rooms were spotless,the gym,steam room and jacuzzi was an added bonus,again the pool was missing a few tiles on the side of the pool but this was being fixed,the changing rooms are also being renovated,the evening meal I had from the restaurant was lovely,as was the breakfast in a nice tranquil restaurant,the staff were excellent and so polite,give it a go"

"Bedroom area was good given the price. Clean, spaceious and comfortable mattresses. Bathroom there was not so great. It had been wiped clean but clearly not scrubbed in a while with mold around the taps and handles that I was able to scrape off with a fingernail. The bins foot peddle was hanging off due to rust and could just be replaced with minimal cost. The shower curtain was yellowing near the bottom although this was easy to miss. No plug in the bath. Show OK. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay again as the bathroom had been cleaned, just not thoroughly, and the price was very competitive."
