"Staff were very helpful. The hotel looked impressive as you walked in, but the rooms we were allocated in the annexe were very grotty on the outside, the rooms were reasonable inside. Breakfast was minimal and little selection on offer, and it wasn’t cheap. The thermal pool was great. The spa wasn’t. We sat in the hot tub as part of a package treatment, but we were in the rain as it wasn’t undercover. The massage was okayish itself though, but the facilities were minimal. Overall we made the best of it and enjoyed the break."

"Good for families, good value. We didnt have the food there as we opted to just buy some stuff from the nearby Sainsburys for our duration. Its not 'spick and span' tip top perfect as you would expect a good hotel but the bed was comfortable and I would return there if I needed to. Outside is designed for kids to play so yes definitely geared for the kids."

"This charming hotel is pretty much perfect in every way from location to the friendly, welcoming and attentive staff, food, hotel gardens and cleanliness. Good selection of breakfast, however, an option of croissant/pastries may be worth considering. We stayed in a cosy double room. Whilst the room was exceptionally clean with towels/bedding changed on a daily basis, complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits topped up daily too, we did find the room very warm and stuffy. Other than that, a very charming room and perfect for a short stay. We have booked another trip to return to this hotel in September 2027 :-)"

"We, a family of four, truly enjoyed our stay at Penny Cottage. Beverly sent detailed instructions before our arrival, which were very helpful, and checked in with us by text on the first day to make sure we did not need anything else. We also really appreciated the thoughtful welcome treats on arrival: Bakewell tarts, milk, tea and hot chocolate.On arrival, everything was exactly as described: a beautiful setting, a stunning and well-maintained garden, and, of course, the gorgeous cottage itself.Penny Cottage is in the sleepy village of Bonsall, which made for a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing stay. At the same time, there are plenty of nearby villages and towns where you can find anything you need, as well as places to explore.The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and had all the equipment needed for our stay. It was a great base for exploring the surrounding area, but it also worked perfectly on the days we decided to stay in because of the weather. We enjoyed watching the rain from the window, relaxing on the comfortable sofas and chairs to watch films, and cooking meals. The kitchen was well equipped, which was ideal as we cooked almost every day. The beds were very comfortable. The shower was great too, with good water pressure and no issues with hot water.All in all, it was a very relaxing stay and we would highly recommend Penny Cottage."

"Fantastic stay – highly recommend!We had a wonderful stay at this property. Right from the beginning, the host’s instructions were spot on and really helpful, making check-in and our overall stay completely seamless.The space was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxed visit. A highlight for us was definitely the arcade machine—it was a huge hit and provided so much fun!We would definitely love to stay again and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great getaway. Thank you for hosting us!"

"Overall, very positive. I'll come on to the Good Stuff in a bit, but first... When I arrived (at the time I said I would when booking) the hotel door was locked and it looked deserted. I called the number I found for it on Google, and a harassed sounding woman said I should have received a message telling me how to get in. (I had received many messages from Expedia claiming to be from the hotel, but all were blank. This is almost certainly a problem with Expedia, not the hotel itself.) She came round and let me in, gave me the key, then went back to (presumably) her other job at the amusement arcade. I then discovered my room was at the front, facing the busy main road, not at the back as I'd booked. But the poor woman who'd come to rescue me had sounded so pressured that I didn't feel I could summon her back again, so I made do. That said... the double glazing (admittedly on a slightly dodgy sash window) kept out the worst of the noise, and everything else about the room was great. A lovely Victorian-style decor, good spacious ensuite, plentiful tea and coffee, etc. The next morning, the friendly staff served me a HUGE Full English. Very welcome with a day's cycling and work ahead! And they let me store my bike in the lounge. So, lots of good things. But Oh for the days when hotels had at least one member of staff on site to greet you on arrival. I know costs are high and staff are hard to find, but it would be so much more welcoming!"
