A unique traditional Japanese hotel experience with a good view towards the west. It’s a shame the staffing and dated facilities really let this place down.
Two things are really excellent about the Resort Hotel Mihagi: the friendly, helpful staff, and the location. Unfortunately the property itself is very dated. The walk to my room from reception involved navigating what appeared to be makeshift ramps and down corridors with crooked window dressings. When I arrived in my room, there was hair on the floor in both the toilet and beside the bed. One of the roller blinds was jammed open, and needed someone to come and fix it. There was a fibre-board fixing screw sitting on the bathroom floor, and a very bizarre, unfinished tiny room between the toilet and the shower. My room was on the same floor as one of the restaurants, and the smell of the cooking pervaded the corridors, and at times the room.
I had inquired about a vegetarian breakfast option through Expedia messages, but never received a reply. I had booked a room with breakfast, so I was concerned. The hotel staff was very attentive and contacted the chef to arrange a vegetarian breakfast. The food was delicious but sparse. The wait staff asked how our breakfast was and made adjustments for the next day’s breakfast. Completely different breakfast and more substantial. The public bath amenities were nice, clean and not crowded. The hotel is right on the beach with beautiful views. It was also very easy to get a taxi from the hotel, front desk can make the call and was only a 5 minute wait .
Excellent resort. Public bath was great and included a whirl pool and massage chairs. Breakfast was delicious but the japanese dinner was phenomenal . The staff were friendly and helpful. Easy to get to from the Hagi bus . Go anywhere in Hagi for 100 yen. We would high recommend to stay for more then 1 day to enjoy the amenities and the area.
We stayed in an expensive thematic family room. It's really not worth it to pay a supplement for this as there are almost no games for the kids and these rooms have no windows and no natural light coming through.
The meals were really awful for the price we paid. It was supposed to be kaiseki meals but there is no service at all. They put everything on the table on the beginning. Everything cooks in the same time and you don't have time to eat. Everything burns or is cold when it's time to eat. On both evenings, they have not provided the number or the type of dishes written on the menu. So, we can see that they try everything to win money. The quality of the food was one of the worst I have ever experienced in Japan for this very expensive price. On the second evening, they have served us some frozen beef ! The beef was still frozen !!!! What a shame. For the breakfast of the kids, they have not done any efforts. It was only things coming from the supermarket like chocolate crepe in a plastic. Very industrial and full of sugar. They have not even done the effort to cook something. We could have had better by going to the Combini ourselves.
When we have done some comments to the staff to complain, they have been very rude. I have shown the paper of the menu to one of them to tell that some dishes are missing and he has teared out the menu from my hands and went out without any word. What's this way of doing ?
On top of this, the big bath was kind of old and dirty.
