The staff was absolutely fantastic and despite the limited amount of English wonderfully helpful and focused on making my stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The Retreat is showing it’s age and would benefit to have a light update on the rooms The quiet forest location makes it ideal for guests that appreciate a very quiet and relaxing stay.

Beautiful location, interesting architecture in the forest, public Onsen and very nice cafeteria on site. Rooms are spacious. We stayed in summer; when we pointed out a smell in the sleeping room we were immediately offered an alternative room. A close look at maintaining small appliances would be good. Transport: We used taxi and buses (Hakone Freepass) to get around Hakone ; staff was very helpful organizing transport when we asked. Rich Japanese and Western breakfast.

Everything was wonderful. The scenery was gorgeous, I loved that there was no TV so you can just enjoy the nature and peace surrounding you. Staff was very helpful and very polite. I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking to just get away, relax, and enjoy some peace at the onsen.

This is an excellent resort, a great location, wonderful set up, an absolute treat to be in a calm peaceful woody environment. My room was not refurbished, as I understand others were renovated recently, but it was still comfortable. I would say there was one noticeable area the hotel could improve as there was a big gap in competence among the on-site hospitality staff: some were exceptional (typically the Japanese team), and others were friendly but incompetent - can't make coffee, don't know the directions to the museum, don't know how to charge a card, don't know which bus to take, etc. This did not spoil my stay, it was still amazing, but short of perfection.

My three adult daughters and I stayed at the retreat for 2 nights and had a nice time. The breakfast was absolutely the highlight of our stay! The food was high quality and there seemed to be a bit of everything of everyone. The staff were lovely and helpful, always answering our questions and trying to help in any way that they could. We were a bit disappointed with our room. It seemed a bit tired and cramped for the price we paid. There were no drawers or cupboards to put our clothes in, so the room became quiet cramped for four women. The bathroom also had limited space to arrange our toiletries. The onsen is beautiful and clean and we enjoyed that very much. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but probably would chose a newer and more modern retreat next time.

Beautiful location, very comfortable, excellent service and good food. The room, facilities and grounds are beautiful. It is a little remote so a car or fairly pricey taxis are needed as busses tend to be a bit slow and complicated to get anywhere. We wished we had staid longer.

A beautiful luxurious retreat!

Loved our stay and only wish we could have stayed longer! Great location, welcoming and accommodating staff (they shipped the laptop we left behind to our hotel in Tokyo the following day), fantastic meals (breakfast, dinner and treats) and thoughtful amenities deserve at least a couple of nights stay. Thermal springs are well situated and super relaxing and the area around the hotel is beautiful. I would give this hotel 11 out of 10!

This hotel is in quiet area and good to have a relaxing time. I would be better if there were walking course exclusive for the customer as I heard that they own such a large area.
