This place is incredible! Truly beautiful and serene. The staff were so kind and made you feel special. The cabins are gorgeous, and the food was delicious. I truly hope to come back for longer next time.
I had such a relaxing time in Hakone retreat villa, its such a special place. The staff are very attentive and helpful, they even brought a spare charger to our room when we needed it. The private onsen was all we hoped for it would be. The Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast is also worth noting, the ingredients are seasonal and fresh and every dish had been delicious. I'd like to come back every season to enjoy nature like this.
Beautiful, secluded property perfect for a romantic or quiet holiday in the mountains. We stayed in a villa with private onsen - it was spacious and peaceful with everything you could need. We highly recommend booking the Kaiseki dinner and buffet breakfast onsite as part of your stay. You
are not super close to other restaurant options without driving or taking bus otherwise. They also have room service and late night options for those who prefer privacy. The room comes with a stocked mini fridge of beverages and fresh coffee, tea. The staff are kind, responsive, and helpful. Only other tip is to book any taxis early, ideally a day or two in advance as the wait can be hours if you cannot take bus. The buses were pretty reliable in our experience although could be a challenge with any extra luggage so plan accordingly. The resort is conveniently close to.the ropeway route and easy to navigate. Highly recommend!!
We had a lovely stay. It was raining when we arrived and we decided to relax in our private onsen. The experience was a dream. Rooms are cleaned daily and minibar restocked. The staff was polite and helpful, the property itself is serene.
The entire staff is amazing and so accommodating, the food was exceptional and we also had a wonderful massage. The rooms are all unique, clean and comfortable. It is a bit off the beaten path and does not have any TVs so you can truly disconnect. Highly recommend!!
Absolutely loved our stay. The bedding, the private onset, and even the lifting toilet really made our experience the best! Let’s not forget the food!!!! We tried out the French menu and 10/10!!!!!! We would love to come back again and share the experience with loved ones.
Highly recommend the traditional Japanese dinner ! Everything was lovely and the staff was very responsive. Beautiful and peaceful grounds, recommend a private onsen.

This place was amazing and so relaxing. The staff was excellent. They were very friendly and very helpful. The villas were so relaxing. Praying that I can come back again.
This is a great place for a weekend get away. Everything in the town closes at 5 so be mindful of that when visiting the town. Food is very good and highly suggest trying the Japanese style breakfast at least once. It was a very neat experience. Traditional breakfast was very basic.
We loved our stay and didn't want to leave! We had three nights in one of the Villas. It was completely private, the wood cabin was gorgeous and smelled amazing. We had a private outdoor bath in the villa and it was fabulous spending time out there. Both the traditional Japanese breakfast and the French breakfast buffet was a treat. Would recommend trying both.
We stayed one night while visiting Hakone and wish we had extended our stay. This is an amazing property with an amazing staff. It was a peaceful and relaxing break after enjoying Tokyo. I would definitely come back for a couple more days.
Hakone Retreat is a gorgeous getaway with a wonderful staff that is always available to assist you. We stayed in one of the private onsen villas, room 3, and it was absolutely everything we could dream of. The hours of operation for the entire property take a little getting used to (the cafe, the lounge and woodside restaurant) but we figured it our and had a fantastic, relaxing time.
We stayed in a ryokan with a private onsen with kaiseki meal package and had a great time.
Staff was attentive and helped transport you around the facility via golf cart at request - this helped immensely with luggage transportation up and down the hillside that the property sits on.
The kaiseki meals were well prepared and the staff spoke some English.
Amazing property. Peaceful and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Hakone. Felt like we were the only ones for miles. 1st class service by the staff.
Such a beautiful property and the staff were very kind and attentive. The private onsen in your villa is very relaxing and the villa itself is well equipped and very nice. There is a bus stop right outside the property so getting to and from here is a breeze. Overall I had a great experience here and I would recommend it to anyone visiting in Hakone.
An really amazing and comfortable room with a private onsen. Very relaxing and beautiful. The check in process was a bit confusing and it was hard to communicate with the staff about the local area and getting around so it made departure a bit complicated. Highly recommend if you want to just relax and stay onsite. The meals were plentiful and delicious.
The rooms are incredibly peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed after a lot of hiking earlier in the week.
The dinner we had was delicious at the restaurant.
The team also helped correct a billing issuer very fast and diligently. We enjoyed it so much that wish we had stayed longer!
Friendly staff. Comfortable bedding. Food options are very limited. Check in Process a bit complicated. Also there was mold on the ceiling of our private onsen. The public onsen isnt much bigger than the private one in the villa. Not as great as expected for the nightly price.
An amazing experience!10/10 we would recommend to anyone traveling to Japan. Nuru-san was wonderful, very attentive, kind, helpful, and taught us so much about Japanese cuture and the food during the exquisite dining experience. Chef Akitoshi Hamanaka-sama is a talented artist and very detailed and passionate about his work. He was also considerate to accommodate a vegetarian diet with a variety of food showcasing Japan’s varied cuisine, and prepared the most memorable wagyu. Thank you to the staff for their hospitality!
Our room was beautiful, we even had a piano inside. Our bed had a really nice view of the little garden, where the open air onsen was located. The onsen was clean and it was so nice to sit in the warm water and take in the serene beauty of the place. The staff was really nice and took us by car to our room and to the busstop, they even wanted to take us to the restaurant, but we decided to walk. The breakfast was a gorgeous japanese style breakfast, which we got in our own separate room in the restaurant.
All in all, would definitely recommend.
This is a special place with excellent service. The private onsen was wonderful! The room/cabin was so comfortable, clean, spacious, well stocked, excellent products, safe, and private. The first dinner menu was one of the best Kaiseki experiences. The chef is talented! The second menu was good- but a step away from the first. My only recommendation would be to include non-alcoholic beverages with the included meals. These were available at an additional cost which is not consistent with the luxury and exclusivity of this property. Would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a few days of quiet luxury, an onsen experience and peaceful beautiful outdoor surroundings.
