"I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...

"The house was wonderful! It was very clean and well-kept. The washer and dryer came in handy. The kitchen was well stocked. All the appliances worked well. The house has big picture windows facing Lake Superior for fabulous views. Check in was very easy. A big thank you to Keith for shoveling the driveway and entryway. "Beautiful view of the lake in winter! Perfect location to Nordic ski and skijor at Tech Trails and Swedetown. The internet service was unusually strong for the UP. We were able to stream multiple devices at the same time. Great communication with the owner, including during a blizzard. We were warm and had power. Thank you for the wonderful memories. "
