Waterfront Hideaway on the Tidal Falls midway between Acadia and Schoodic

The house, nestled amongst the trees and sitting very close to the shore creates privacy while providing stunning views of the special reversing tidal falls - an ever-changing landscape to enjoy. A great place to stay all day or come back to after Acadian adventures.
This 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath year round home has views from every room. Downstairs has a master suite with queen bed and full bath. Complete kitchen opens up to a dining and living area. Half bath is downstairs. Upstairs are the other two bedrooms - one with queen bed and one single bed, the other with a full futon and one single bed. This bedroom also has a large desk for writing or other projects. Also on the second floor is the cathedral ceilinged artist studio, and full bath. Hardwood floors in the large studio make for a great room to dance, create, read, play music or listen to a great assortment of Classical, jazz, and rock vinyl records.
It's a great set-up for a multigenerational family with the older generation downstairs and the younger upstairs..
The large deck off the downstairs makes for outdoor dining and socializing all while listening to and watching the rush and ever-changing landscape of the tidal falls. Many marine mammal and bird (including eagles, osprey and loons) sightings await.
The walk down to the shore has paths amongst a mature, landscaped garden. Sit in an Adirondack chair by the fire pit and practically be on the Falls.
Enjoy the best of Downeast Maine with trips to Mount Desert and Acadia, or to Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula. Hancock has many fine restaurants to enjoy. Ellsworth is just 15 minutes away for shopping.

We rented this house to see the Fall Foliage and explore Acadia National Park. This house is about 40 minutes away from the park, but the drive is very pretty! The house is spacious and comfortable. The views from every window are incredible. The back yard is beautiful. We wished there had been more another tv, but the record player was such fun! This place is great!

This home was a delight for our family of six, including three teenagers. The views at sunrise and sunset were magnificent, and the record collection was perfect incredible. The location was close enough to Acadia but yet far enough away to feel like a retreat. We truly felt at home.

My family & I had a great stay! The house was more than what we expected. The view from the deck was gorgeous. We sat there every morning enjoying the scenery. The space inside was nice. We went to MDI & Schoodic peninsula and it was an easy drive to both. If we ever go to that part of Maine again, we won't stay tjere.

Ideal location on water, plenty of space for our family. We explored all 3 sections of Acadia NP and felt the home was a great central spot. Appreciated the suggestions as we cooked our own seafood boil and the kitchen had everything we needed. Loved the records and added to the collection when we departed.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at this lovely house. It was very spacious and quite suitable for two couples or families with children. Eagles did visit four times, sometimes perching for hours on 'the tree.' The view of the tidal falls was excellent. And during the cooler days of early July, the ability to heat the house was most welcome. The house is well situated for excursions to Acadia National Park, local ponds and lakes for swimming, and close to good restaurants and shopping.

We took a sibling trip to Maine to see the beauty it has to offer. The views are fabulous from the back porch and we spent a lot of time in the evenings out there. Something to note the photo in the listing shows a lot of firewood but that is to heat the home so you will need to buy your own if you want to use the fire pit. There are so many spices , condiments, foil, plastic wrap, bug spray etc it might be a good idea to check in before hitting the grocery store. There were fresh flowers and a bottle of wine which was a very nice touch. We loved the record player and used it quite often. The house has its older charm but could use a little refreshening. Thank you for a nice week.

Well we got there really late and it was already really dark and the house was left unlocked. Unsure upon entering the home. There are a couple of blinds/curtains, but NOT very many and lots of BIG windows! No privacy at all and not knowing the area we were very leary of where we changed clothes that first night. In our opinion there should be something on the windows should someone want to pull the blinds then they could. When we walked in there was a musty smell, we got used to it after being there for a while. The comforter on the downstairs bed was dirty. The dish towels in the kitchen had stains. There are spider webs in lots of corners of the rooms, even killed one spider. The toilets are not working properly. For the money that we paid for the 3 nights that we were there, I'm sorry but just not worth it. However the record player and the multitude of albums were awesome. The view of the ocean was nice. The visit from the Eagle was amazing.

It's been a delight to be your first guests here at Tidal Falls House. My Dad and I took it as a good sign that -- upon arriving in the early evening last Friday -- when we walked into the living room overlooking the reversing falls, not one but two bald eagles swooped in to greet us. During our week we've thrilled watching the bald eagles, a golden eagle, lots of seals, cormorants, loons and many other birds. The seals are particularly delightful riding the tides. The views of the woods -- and the ever-changing tidal falls -- are special throughout the day but most of all in the early morning and evening. We're staying here in the very early and chilly spring so it's been comforting to have a cheery (and warm) wood-burning stove and warm and comfortable beds. Thanks too for touches such as the pristine record collection (my Boomer Dad's been reminiscing), the local pottery and dish ware from Gull Rock and lots of other thoughtful items such as guidebooks to birds and wild flowers in the area. My Dad wouldn't let me end without mentioning the well-appointed kitchen. The appliances, cookware (including a lobster pot, of course) and utensils add up to what he says is a better-equipped kitchen than those in most homes. My family has been coming to Hancock for nearly 30 years (my aunt and uncle own the Crocker House on Hancock Point) and we've stayed in many places but, your Tidal Falls House is special. It won't take the Greek goddess Peitho (whose name appears on a carved ship nameplate above the front door and whose image appears in a print hanging in the foyer) to persuade or seduce us to come back again. That's done and we look forward to it. Thanks you. Kate H.

The view was spectacular!!! The beds where comfortable! When we arrived it was like walking into a fish market. The people before us must of cooked a lot of fish. Heads up if you cook fish set out a bowl of vinegar to absorb the smell. There also was a musty smell I’m sure being in the humid and close to water area that’s difficult to control. The place could definitely use some TLC. Just bring candles to mask smell.

We really enjoyed our stay in Hancock. The house is beautiful and has everything you need. The setup is perfect for a family; our kids took over the upstairs and my wife and I took the master bedroom on the first floor. Beautiful ocean views and we saw some seals in the harbor.

My family and I enjoyed watching the water, tidal falls, with the seals and all the water birds. It was so relaxing. I really liked the layout of the house. Two bedrooms with a full bathroom upstairs and then the master with full bathroom downstairs was just what we needed.

Lydia's house has everything you could possibly need for a vacation. Spacious rooms, separate space for older kids, fully equipped kitchen & stunning shoreline property. We enjoyed bonfires, the gorgeous sunsets & the wildlife in the area.

I am so lucky that we stumbled upon this house when looking at booking in Maine. Ideally I wanted something mid coast but I am so glad we stayed at Lydia's place. My boys took over the top floor and me and my husband enjoyed the views of the bottom floor and much time outside in the back yard. I loved watching the movement of the high tide and low tide and how it affected the tidal falls area. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook basic meals to a full lobster dinner. The beds were comfy and with the windows open there was a nice breeze. The upstairs got warm but with the fans provided in the rooms there was no problem. The AC in the tv room was appreciated. Lydia was easy to communicate with and helped us enjoy our stay. Thank you.

Our first evening we saw seals, otters and ducks. A short drive to Mt Desert Island and Acadia National Park. But don't miss Schoodic Point (part of Acadia) which is only 30 -45 minutes away), truly the quiet part of the Park.

Lydia’s house was so nice! Tucked away in a densely wooded area. Beautiful views of the bay from several windows on both floors. The Kitchen was spacious and had everything you could need. Bedrooms were large and beds comfortable. Great spot if going to Acadia and want to be a bit off the beaten path where so many tourists are. Lydia was very responsive to our few questions. We will definitely consider this place on next trip to Acadia! Thank you Lydia!

There were definitely highs and lows to our family's stay. LOCATION : the location was great. We were close to grocery stores, shops, boat rides and tours, Bar harbor in, Acadia National Park and short drives to Bangor, Baxter State Park, Fort Knox and the Penobscot Bridge and Observatory. SPACE: We are a family of 6 and we had plenty of room. However, it would have been nice to have a cupboard space for our groceries that didn't go in the fridge. We used the counter. CLEANLINESS: this needed work. The cafe curtains are moldy, the drawers in the kitchen were grubby. There's a note about have washing dishes because the dishwasher doesn't work well (not good in covid). There were ant traps on the kitchen counter (we did see ants). And there was a mouse! (To which Lydia's response was " that's country life." She did apologize the day if check out) SECURITY: the internet was down. We spent until around 2 for the cable guy to finish his job. Lydia suggested that we just leave and "leave the door unlocked. I do when I'm there." Not acceptable for visitors with computers, meds, money, etc. Also, the front door does not lock from the outside. We had to shoulder it in, lock from the inside, go out the back deck and lock the back door to secure the house, then reverse when coming back. The seating by the fire pit was very rickety and needs replaced. Our son is 80 pounds and I thought that the glider was going to collapse under his weight. OTHER: The record collection was great! Lydia did give us a generous check out time.

Perfect location to accommodate our sightseeing agenda! Easy access to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Quiet, gorgeous location with an amazing view of Tidal Falls. We enjoyed the views so much! Cooked a few meals in the fully equipped kitchen. Loved the wood burning stove and listening to some old vinyl! Perfect all around for us!
