"Had a light large room with en suite, if you want fancy then this is not for you, the couple running it are very easy to talk to and very pleasant and helpful, breakfast was good, right in the centre of town. "

"This is a very charming place situated right in the center of “Darrowby”. The inn has a beautiful garden and the breakfast is tasty and well done. The innkeeper Lynn was the best example of hospitality we have ever had, coming to the rescue when our rental car had a flat tire in a remote area. She really embodies the reputation of how lovely the people are in the Yorkshire Dales, and took extra care to make sure our car troubles didn’t ruin the vacation."

"I loved this old hotel for is quirky charm and character. Wasn't so keen on the six spiders living in the corners of our bedroom! There was no phone in the room, as advertised in the welcome page, so we had to go down to ask for things but the staff were so friendly and helpful. Would def stay again. Lovely and quiet and very spacious room with a great view. Would def benefit from a fan as it was roasting in our room. Breakfast was lovely and the whole stay was very good value for money."
"Staying at Appelby castle was an experience we combined it with a performance of the Handlebards in the grounds. The owner Sally is lovely and Peter manager slways helpful. We stayed in what was the ' servants quarters ' on the top floor. Unfortunately it had a parapet window so no views but the room was spacious the bed comfortable , nice linen and towels and a good shower. The floor in the bedroom and to the shower was sloped so not recommended for anyone with mobility issues the room was up 3 flights of stairs the last ones quite steep.
We didn't have dinner but had breakfast . It was ok. With a bit of tweaking it could be v good . Ie better choices of cereal , fruit and availabity of yogurt. English breakfast was fine but would have been nice to have toast and jams after. Coffee was Ok. At about £16pp it was expensive for what was available.
The castle is tired but has so much potential . We were disappointed that the museum in the tower was closed . With a little bit of tweaking the experience could be so much better but we enoyed our stay and would consider staying again"
"Building really nice, pool should of been heated but wasn't at time of stay, sauna and steam room not working, but only used pool. Only gripe really was the road noise if you get a front facing room.menu was a bit restricted, need a good burger on it. Staff were great ,knowledgable about area. Good access via bus outside the hotel to lakes . Would go again ."
"Overall a very comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very good although the opaque glass meant there was no view from the room.
The cost of the stay and bar purchases represented good value for money and we would definitely stay here again."
"Lovely traditional old pub, lovely dinner and breakfast. Rooms were furnished to a high quality, bathroom a little small. Nice touch with coffee with a cafetiere and teas and biscuits. Plenty of hanging space and plug sockets. Surrounding area was beautiful and peaceful, the waterfalls and great walks all around..cannot recommend enough."
"Very nice room, clean and great for our stay. Only comment is shower not easy to use without getting water everywhere and if you don’t want to wash your hair, and beyond their control but the road was noisy with Lorry’s - we had read this so knew to expect it . The touches for our puppy were lovely (bowls, poo bags, treats, a ball and bed were left out for us). We arrived really late but staff were lovely and welcoming. Breakfast was cute in the basket which was delivered at the time requested and enabled us to set off in the morning without needing to stop again for breakfast although I can recommend Mainsgill farm shop just a couple minutes along the road. Good tea and coffee facilities in the room with decaf tea and decaf coffee also offered. A lot of great space behind the building in a field for letting the puppy run around before getting back in the car. Would definitely stay again."
"Staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Great advice and what to see and do locally. Perfect location by the motorway but beautiful scenery next to the lake and hills.
Room & building was a little tired but perfectly fine for a dog friendly stay."
"We were lucky as we were allocated a room at the rear of the hotel with stunning views
The staff were extremely helpful and we had a fantastic stay.
This was our first trip to the dales, and were blown away by the location of the hotel, the local businesses etc.
A huge thank you for a wonderful trip."
