This is a very nice inn. It reminded me of the gasthauses we sometimes stayed at when I was growing up in Germany. If you're looking for a major brand name 5 star full service, this isn't it, but it's not supposed to be. A bit of an eclectic place, but the uniqueness and comfort of the accommodations was outstanding. And add to that an amazing restaurant. While there is not much immediately around it of interest, it's well located for accessing the nearby towns and attractions.

We stayed in several hotels during our trip to the Netherlands and Germany and the Boutique Hotel Annamaes was our favorite for many reasons. It was the only comfortable bed I slept in during the week and the rooms were gorgeous--simply and elegantly decorated. Being in a castle is unique by itself. First impressions were not as expected, fake flowers everywhere, a bar with a kitschy look, a spa with no pool, an outdoor area like a beer garden, it felt a bit like in an amusement park. Bathroom with a bathtub, difficult to step into and very slippery, lots of stairs to climb. Stayed here for Rampage festival and it’s close enough to walk to the shuttle bus stop. The staff is wonderful and helped me schedule taxi service back from the festival late at night when the shuttles stopped running and Uber service was nonexistent. I would not have been able to stay for many of the late night sets I wanted to see without their help. Taxi from the festival is around 45-50 EUR. The breakfast is good too.

Everything about this stay was perfect. The staff was very helpful and personable. The room was immaculate. Breakfast was made to order and very good. Tongeren is a lovely, quiet town. A terrific stay.
