About this property
Charming Retreat | Hot Tub, Views & Near Nashville
Catalpa Tree House is a very cute, very clean, fully-furnished apartment with its own private outdoor entrance, in the upper story of a 100+ year old farmhouse in Helmsburg, IN. Conveniently located to Nashville (10 minutes away) with lots of cool shops, galleries, & restaurants; Bean Blossom (5 minutes) home of the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Music Festival and Plum Creek Antiques; Bloomington (30 minutes) featuring vibrant art and cultural events, as well as Indiana University's plethora of sporting events; Columbus, (45 minutes) where you'll enjoy outlet shopping at Edinburgh Premium Outlet Mall; and Indianapolis (60 minutes). The owners (a 40-something couple with a young son) are the 5th generation to live in the early 1900s farmhouse, and occupy the main floor of the house. Guests' privacy is of the highest priority, and the owners are a quiet family who respect their guests' need for rest and relaxation.
Climb the stairs to find a nice deck with a hot tub overlooking Brown County's famous tree-covered hills (with a gorgeous view of the sunset sky), and table & chairs perfect for bird watching while you sip your morning coffee. From the deck you'll be able to see the Indiana Railroad train, as it goes through the little village of Helmsburg. When you step inside the front door, an airy and open space that's bright, comfortable, and clean awaits. All the rooms are spacious and decorated with vintage and up-cycled finds, as well as local art. Two cute sofas, a 40-inch flat screen TV, and a chair make for the perfect spot to snuggle, read, or watch a movie. High-speed internet, Roku, and the full Sling package provide endless options for TV watching. There are also books, games, a DVD player, a Wii video game console, and stereo for the times you may want to hunker down and stay in, cuddled up with lots of soft, cozy blankets.
The kitchen is completely furnished, right down to the forks...so bring along the food you want to cook and you'll be set. Cookware, colorful dishes, a toaster, blender, coffee maker, electric range, full-size fridge, and microwave are all there to make your mealtimes easy. You'll even find flour, sugar, spices, tea, and fresh, locally roasted coffee from Brown County Coffee. Adjoining the kitchen is the laundry room with a stacking HE washer/dryer. An iron and mini-size ironing board are also provided, if you are personally offended by wrinkles.
In the bedroom, the deliciously comfy queen bed is outfitted with crisp white linens and plenty of pillows. An antique dresser and a big closet will handle all the clothes you can pack. The full bath features a tub/shower combo, fluffy towels, shampoo, lotion, and locally made soap.
Brown County has lots of entertainment options, from outdoor activities such as ATV tours, zip-lining, gold-panning, horseback riding, golf, mountain biking, and hiking. There are over 200 shops in Nashville (a 10-minute drive), plus artists' studios, craft galleries, as well as many restaurants from which to choose. We have several wineries and breweries to visit, and Brown County State Park, Yellowwood State Forest, and Lake Lemon, are all within 10 minutes of Catalpa Tree House. The Bill Monroe Music Park-Campground hosts several music festivals throughout the year, so come get your bluegrass and jazz on in beautiful downtown Bean Blossom...you'll be there within five minutes of leaving Catalpa Tree House's driveway. The Helmsburg General Store is practically a stone's throw from your seat on the deck, and a good place to pick up a Hunt Brothers Pizza, chicken wings, some beer, incidentals, or fishing bait.

This was our second year staying and we enjoyed it just as much as last year. Very nice little tree house, close enough to the town but far enough away to enjoy the quiet. Will definitely be back!
This place was awesome for what we wanted! The hot tub was clean and great! It was located far enough away to feel secluded but close enough to everything! We will definitely book again
The Catalpa Treehouse was a great and relaxing place to stay for our visit to the Brown County area. The location was conveniently close to Nashville IN but far enough away as to have the peaceful affect we wanted. We were completely satisfied with all aspects of the accommodations.
I stayed by myself for a few days to relax in a country setting and hike while the leaves were beautiful. Catalpa Tree house was just what I wanted nice hosts, clean, hot water, comphy bed, warm and inviting. The hot tub was clean and the jets Worked well. I enjoyed sitting in it while watching birds and squirrels around me Quiet except for noise for a short while one morning from the lumber co next door. I also heard a group of coyotes howling one night which I just loved!
The apartment was pretty, warm and comphy just like it was last year. I enjoy being out in the country which this place is. The hot tub under the stars on cool nights is a big plus.
Everything was great just as expected. Since we didn't need a key, it would've been nice to not have to stop at the leasing office other than that everything was perfect.
Very clean, quaint, quiet, piece of heaven. Never knew the owners were below....it was absolutely wonderful. I really can't stay enough about our stay. It was just what we needed to get away from the stress of everyday life. Thank you for being such great hosts!
Just what the doctor ordered in COVID-time. Safe and secure so that we could always eat in, with a nicely "stocked" kitchen. The home was decorated very nicely as "farmhouse chic."
Comfortable cottage, hot tub was a little over warm, and the cooling of the cottage was a little weak, but we are used to AK temperatures.

Liked: Cleanliness
Disliked: Check-in, listing accuracy
Sucks
Owners are downstairs and complain if you are a little noisy, a/c doesn’t work, and hot tub was 107 degrees. Also they a have an outside camera facing the stair you go up but it’s not disclosed on the listing. Also vrbo wouldn’t let me post my real feelings about this place so beware dealing with them as well
Just what we needed for a long weekend! Nice TV, comfy bed, relaxing hot tub- and close to Nashville. Total privacy despite the owners being on the property. Prompt reply from owner when a minor issue came up. Definitely recommend!
