The house was nicely redone but it obviously had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. The bathroom & kitchen garbage cans were full, a laundry basket full of dirty sheets and towels was in the bedroom closet, tons of dead bugs & cobwebs were in every room, and the bathroom sinks & mirrors had toothpaste on them. My mom was bitten by a spider/bug in the night that left her with a bleeding welt on her elbow; unfortunately some blood got on the sheets, but given the proliferation of bugs, it makes sense.
There was no information provided about the home (how to operate TV, alarm, thermostats) how to contact the owner, or expectations for check out. When I messaged the owner (through VRBO) about WIFI, he did not respond until the next day.
I messaged the owner after leaving the property to let him know the house wasn’t clean. Having received no response for days, I contacted VRBO. After providing photos proving the condition of the house, they messaged the owner. Only then did I get a response from him. Rather than address the situation, he berated me for not contacting him prior to checkout. We were in town for 2 days (36 hours) for my daughter's graduation. I chose not to further disrupt our trip focus my time and energy on family rather than wait for him to respond and clean the house. The cleanliness of the house and his communication were unacceptable which is really unfortunate bc the house had been nicely redone.
