"We recently stayed at The Ocean View Hotel from 13th–15th February and unfortunately were very disappointed with our experience. We chose this hotel specifically because of the facilities advertised on the website, including a swimming pool, bar, coffee shop, evening dining, jazz club with cocktail bar, and the daily “Happy Hour” promotion. These amenities were a major factor in booking what we hoped would be a relaxing weekend break. However, on arrival—and throughout our stay—we discovered that the swimming pool, bar, coffee shop, and evening dining were all closed. There had been no prior notice of these closures on the website or in our booking confirmation email. To make matters more frustrating, there were posters displayed around the hotel advertising “Happy Hour” from 4–6pm daily, despite the bar not being open. Breakfast was also an additional charge, and while convenient, we found that far better quality and more reasonably priced breakfast options were available just a short walk away in the town centre. The lack of communication felt misleading, as the facilities advertised were simply not available. Had we known in advance, we would likely have chosen alternative accommodation. While the stay itself may suit guests who only require a room, (if you don’t mind a bed without a headboard), we feel the hotel should be transparent about which amenities are operational. Clear and accurate information would help manage expectations and avoid disappointment. "

"The hotel is a beautiful building. The surroundings as well. The staff is very professional. However, the rooms need more maintenance and the cleanliness is average. "

"Found the room quite claustrophobic with a very small bathroom and basin in bedroom. No food available as I was the only guest staying. Staff were very nice. Do not think I will stay there again. "

"Very well equipped house. Only one niggle the boiler hot water temperature is too low. The shower and bath were luke warm. I was unable to adjust it. Also, the key safe would not work to lock the key in when we left."

"Lovely well appointed house with generous welcome hamper filled with local foods and drink. Soaps and shampoos etc in the bathrooms and cloakroom. Lots to see and do in the local area and our host was superb, communicating well and greeting us the first evening to show us the ropes. A wonderful stay in all respects."

"We enjoyed the garden and were allowed to pick fresh plums, apples,tomatoes & figs. Our old dog also enjoyed the garden but I would have been more relaxed if there had been a barrier between the cottage and the busy main road."

"Particularly appreciated: view to sea, location near Botanic Garden, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable sofas, lots of power points, dark skies to view stars (when clouds cleared) Would also suggest: non-slip mat in bath/shower, high-back easy chair - and pls fix wonky dining chair! Overall: had a good stay, thank you, would recommend"
