It was awfully packed over the full moon weekend (would not recommend visiting during this period)! This pavilion-like structure at the front Paththirippuwa, or Octagon. It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. Nice place; good location; puzzling presentation

Pleasant host. Good location; walkable to the center, though a little uphill on the way back. Room was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom was okay. Breakfasts were good. As for negatives: hot water was inconsistent. WiFi generally did not work in the room, which is frustrating. Bath mat was dirty such that I didn’t want to step on it (I’d suggest getting rid of the rug-type and get the easily washed towel-type). Upon arrival, the hostess called in a “free government tourist officer” (?). He offered Information about things to see and do, and offered to arrange transportation via his office’s own tuktuk (at a cost much higher than I was able to arrange on my own). I found this all puzzzling, as this was the only time in a month of travel in Sri Lanka that I heard of anything like this, and I found him to be quite pushy and confusing.
