Our stay was wonderful, we were lucky enough to have one of the newly renovated rooms at the hotel. The hotel staff were very polite and accommodating and the hotel is very centrally located - easy walk to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, eateries and shops.

They went above and beyond to assist me with all my needs. If you’re traveling in the area, I cannot recommend this hotel enough! The staff is incredibly warm and accommodating, making your stay truly enjoyable. Everything about my experience was exceptional.

You must read-up on what to expect at the queen’s hotel. It may or may not be for you. It feels like stepping back in time. The place is a little shabby in places but if you want to have that feeling of living a bit of history it delivers. It’s an excellent location and the staff are all friendly and helpful. The pool offers a break from the noise of town and just generally- bring your ear plugs! We really enjoyed our stay.

Charming but in need of renovation

We like the charm of old colonial hotels and would recommend it because of the great location but you should no that a lot of things don't always work. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I saw the one room that has been renovated and it aas very nice with modern bathroom and still the room with colonial style.

Old historic hotel. Amazing location. Serviceminded staff. Downside; too many big tour groups use this hotel, so not so cosy, when you come as the only ones not part of a large group

Convenient location. Just close to all main attraction and restaurants, such as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and Kandy lake. The hotel itself looks elegant and the maintenance is quite good. I especially enjoy the life that you can feel the living history of the hotel. It is also conformable to stay in the room. Good choice or stay here of you visit Kandy.

Historic Hotel in Kandy

If you like historic hotels this is for you. In a perfect location by the lake and opposite the Temple of the Tooth. The interior takes you right back to the 19th Century with its wooden floors and antique bar. The dinning room is old fashioned with a good mix of western and Sri Lankan food. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Everything about this hotel is the opposite of a modern bland corporate hotel. Staying here is an experience.

Great old hotel

Very nice old hotel with the best location in Kandy. One thing is bad - the lift. Its very old and people do not close the door after them. Then no-one can use the lift. Atmosphaire is fantastic. Staff is great. I always stay in Queens when I am in Kandy.

never had such a bad experience checking in, the girl (with glasses) at the reception was so rude it was laughable, I really got no idea how she got the job. the hotel is really nice and close to everything, but the rooms facing the main street get really noisy at night, the it gets quiet from 11 pm until 4am when the traffic (trucks, buses ect..) start again. ok for the location , the beauty of the hotel, the swimming pool, the bar , but avoid if you want some sleep . remember, be aware of the ignorant unprofessional lady at the reception! be ready to wait for a long time ! a long queue of people complaining when I left!

Keep your sense of humour and you'll get through the half to one hour check in process and you'll start to enjoy this quirky, totally inefficient hotel in the perfect location opposite the Temple of the Tooth. It's unapologetically rundown - but if you love heritage hotels you'll love this place. It has a nice restaurant with really lovely staff. It's the reception staff that desperately need training in how to deal with customers. We had zero explanation of why we were kept waiting for over half an hour. Very poor communication and generally inept. But again, get through the check in process and you'll be in heritage bliss - well, maybe not 'bliss' but you'll probably love the place anyway.

Mixed experience

Overall our experience was disappointing, mainly due to the service we received. There was a problem with our booking when we arrived, and we were left waiting at reception not knowing what was going on. We asked for updates but the staff were dismissive, after waiting for 45 minutes we were taken to our room, it all worked out positively but after a long trip of travelling we were unsure as to the situation. The breakfast was disappointing - we arrived at 9.30 (breakfasts ends at 10) and most things had ran out, when asking for some more to be bought the staff seemed inconvenienced. The hotel was great for location and the rooms were lovely, it was just a shame about the service we experienced.
