A grove of olive trees on Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea. It's a beautiful island full of rural beaches, vineyards and olive groves.

Olive oil is this island's main export with over a million olive trees covering the island. The island used to have over 200 operating oil presses until the devastating earthquake of 1953 dropped the number to around 13.

In August 1953 the area had an astounding 113 recorded earthquakes. The largest measured 7.2 and caused the island to rise by 60 cm. It leveled whole villages and many were killed. A large portion of the survivors left Kefalonia for Athens, UK, America and Australia. The region around the Ionian Islands is the most earthquake prone region spanning from Western Europe to China.

"We had a great stay at this beautiful family run complex. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The apartment itself was spotless and comfortable for a family of 4. Good air condition and amenities. Location was also great, only a short stroll to the harbour front where restaurants and bars are plentiful. Agia Efimia is a really pretty town and a great place for exploring the surrounding area of Kefalonia. All in all a very good experience and would definitely stay again. "

"We had a great time in Argostoli and loved the location and views from the property. Our delayed flight and late arrival (12:30am) was not a problem at all as the keys were left in the door for us! Parking was not actually on site, but on the road near to the property. However, this did not cause any problems as a space was always available. Loved the fact that it was an easy walk down into the town for drinks and food and nightlife. Also a nice walk into Lassi but that was a bit further away....

"Asos is one of the most beautiful seaside locations we have stayed in, and the apartment is in the perfect spot. Being able to swim from the door is unique. Given the plusses the quirky loo is forgivable. Loved our few days there! "

"The villa was well equipt, quiet and clean. Close to tourist area and restaurants but in a quiet location slightly up the hill with beautiful views. Hosts were simply lovely, friendly, kept the place clean. Lovely sitting out area and garden with friendly cats. I would highly recommend this property"

Although close to the airport runway you are not bothered at all. If anything it becomes a lovely feature of the accommodation. Our young son loved ‘airplane time’. "Great Skala hotel. Nice beach area with loungers that require a fee but are serviced by hotel staff with access to a full bar and menu. Quality of drinks and food including breakfast were perfectly adequate but not the best to be found in the area. But staff, location, & ambiance were all excellent. Room was nice with a comfortable bed, subtle decor, and a lovely porch area that we left alone so the birds (house martins) could feed their babies. Great pool and bar area for relaxing."
