Interior could do with refreshing. Service mixed, depending on staff could be quick or slow and they didn’t seem engaged. WiFi in rooms poor. Felt like it’s relying on its location not the overall experience.
Location is a major positive. Hotel is very clean well maintained general areas open to all look well presented but sound travels easily from the corridors into rooms and to a lesser extent room to room.
Our room was very small, it is difficult to remember the last time I stayed in such a compact room going between bed and arm chairs almost sideways if you of larger frame.
Service - is not a strength, reception was fine but waiting staff did mot seem local (but more like contract Eastern European often found in large cities) they were slow to work out arrivals to seating areas. Waiting times outside and for some in the bar appeared longer than I’d have expected.
Generally not as good as I had expected if I were returning to the area I would try one of the nearby hotels instead.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay only one slight criticism was that restaurant/conservatory meal service was too slow. The staff were working extremely hard but I felt that more staff were needed. The conservatory menu didn’t change during our stay and staff seemed unsure as to wether we could choose a single course from the restaurant menu. The food on the whole was enjoyable but not exciting.
We stayed one night and wished we could have stayed longer. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the food and service were both amazing. Delicious food, with very quick and attentive service from polite and helpful staff. We were accommodated with vegan options which were lovely (and even vegan biscuits in our room!) we had coffee in the bar after dinner which is very cosy and relaxing. Our room was comfortable, we stayed in the standard room size which was perfect for a couple, we would probably stay in a bigger room if we had brought our dog! Very dog friendly hotel and all in all a very pleasant, relaxing stay. We will be back!
Hotel was lovely but I found the bedroom was quite hot no air very stuffy in the bedroom part from that very thing was excellent and food and staff
I would definitely come back x
stayed many times before and have always had a front of hotel room, we went for our wedding anniversary and thought we would treat ourselves to a more expensive room. although the room was lovely it was tucked away at the back of the hotel down many small corridors with only an average view... we were a little disappointed. however we will be back again for our annual wedding anniversary stay next year.
Really enjoyed our stay. Very pet friendly, when the weather was wet and windy it was lovely to sit in front of a roaring fire chatting with other guests. We ate in the hotel both nights and was very good. Although breakfast on the 2nd day could have been better. We booked a standard after being told that was the only room available that could take a dog but they are on small size. Next time would try and book a prestige room.
Stopped here for two nights. The cleanliness was excellent and bed comfy. The food was good in the hotel restaurant. My only issue was how hot the room was even without heating on. It was bearable by having both windows fully open without the curtains closed. We were in room 3 on the back of the hotel. I would go back with our dog but only if the dog friendly rooms were cooler.

Room with a view !!
The room allocated was not as described in your correspondence to me namely a twin room with a seating area. The staff arranged another room after we had unpacked and had to repack to move. I am 80 years old and do not need to carry luggage up four flights of stairs. The food, the staff, the service, was very good, room allocation not so. I'm not sure where the responsibility lies for such problems but sort it out, please.
Rather more luxurious a hotel than I usually stay at and rather enjoyed it, I'm afraid! Difficult to too accurately assess as I was only there one night, but I think I may return!
Great location for exploring the lakes. Very comfortable, and a lovely garden to enjoy a drink in the sunshine. Dog friendly, but guest information on this is confusing - for example, in one place it says dogs are allowed in the conservatory and in another it says not. Some of the staff weren't quite up to scracth - dismissive and seemed to give an air of not caring - but all others were great. Disappointing meal on second evening: waited nearly 50 minutes for starter to arrive, and when asked if it was normal for this dish we were told 'well it's busy' - but then when it was pointed out that other diners, who had arrived and ordered after, had received their meals with no delay, the waiter shrugged his shoulders and walked off. Disappointing to have experienced this in the first instance.
We liked the old stately building and the setting. It is a typical "olde worlde" classic hotel. Our en-suite room was very nice and the bed most comfortable. Unfortunately the great looking shower is very weak and I could pee faster!!! Sadly there is not a lift. The bar and lounges are comfortable and warm. The food is only average but expensive. Drinks are average price. Easy access car park and a car is necessary. The surrounding countryside is magnificent.

Old traditional hotel in lovely location.
Some would view the hotel as stuffy and old fashioned, The staff vary from being friendly to aloof. Breakfast can vary from 20 mins to an hour and half. Surprising that a 4 star hotel has no mini bar or safe in the room and poor internet coverage.
