"I loved the peacefullness of the rainforest. The staff was amazing. The only thing that was not great was the food. They should specials on everyday of the week. I asked for eggs over medium and I got hard eggs. The steak tacos had no flavor and the steak was hard. The only good thing that we ate was the skirt steak with mash and they can put more mash on the plate."

"Gabriel was a wonderful and responsive host. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen was set up enough for us to cook our meals and just fix a quick lunch. The beds were amazingly comfortable. We slept so good on them and the pillows. We loved the balcony upstairs with the ever changing view. That was our favorite place. The house is close to grocery stores and plenty of sodas and restaurants. It is about 14 miles/25-30 minutes to Fortuna and close to many excursions. There are even a couple on the same road as the house. If you come here, you will be very pleased with the accommodations."

"The staff here is absolutely fantastic! Even though our trip started a bit bumpy, they totally turned it around and made us feel so welcome and at home. Their hospitality was beyond amazing, and they were super accommodating to everything we needed. We're definitely coming back when we're in the La Fortuna area! They even helped us plan activities and surprised my sister for her birthday, which was so sweet! Big shout-out to Alejandro, Jimmy, Carlos, and Victor! Pura Vida !"

"This property was amazing! Perfect for what we needed! The pool was awesome! (Still swam several times even though it rained much of the time we were home.) Rafael was an excellent host! The breakfast Henry and his family provided was amazing! I highly Recommend it! The rooms were beautiful and very clean."
Secret Garden La Fortuna Lake View Kayak and Stand Up Paddle

"We LOVED this place! And our host was so responsive to everything! We stayed here for the first part of our trip then went to Punta Leona, Playa Blanco. Knowing what we know now, we would have stayed here longer before traveling to the beach. The house was very spacious for the 6 of us. We loved the pond in our back yard and spent a lot of time there. My kids caught so many tilapia which we threw back. We used the kayakes and paddle boards. There were banana, almond, mango, and cacoa trees. I loved going down to the table by the pond with my coffee as the sun came up and the peacocks that were roosting in the trees would come down one by one and walk right by. We were so close to all our excursions. The Arenal volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, Hot Springs, the boys got picked up from there to go zip lining and got dropped back off, and the wonderful coffee and chocolate tour at Finca La Esperanza. All highly recommended! There are stores and sodas just a few minutes away. Honestly, this is such a great deal and makes us want to come back. The drive took about 2.5 hrs from SJO but the views along the route made it seem shorter. We will definitely be back!"

"It is difficult to put my seven days at San Rafael Ecolodge into words, because even now reflecting on this experience brings tears to my eyes. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, this place truly felt like heaven on earth. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by Giovanni, Luis, and Thor, the sweetest dog imaginable. Their warmth, kindness, and sense of humor immediately made me feel at home. This is not an ordinary hotel stay—it feels more like coming home to family. As a solo female traveler, feeling safe is incredibly important, and I cannot recommend San Rafael Ecolodge highly enough to other women traveling alone. I felt completely safe, cared for, and genuinely welcomed throughout my stay. The room was beautiful, the food delicious, and the property itself peaceful and lovingly maintained. Giovanni arranged unforgettable adventures and shared the incredible wildlife, including a family of sloths living on the property. Luis kept everything immaculate and made sure I always had everything I needed. Costa Rica captured my soul, and San Rafael Ecolodge captured my heart. I arrived as a guest, but I left feeling like family. Without a doubt, this has become my second home. Until we meet again… Pura Vida. ❤️🇨🇷"
Green Forest Villa la Fortuna

"Loved the house. Full of rustic charm in a great area. Checking in and accessing the house and two downstairs locked bedrooms was a little convoluted. One of the codes we were given was wrong and the WiFi name was wrong too. But we figured it out.The “neighborhood” pool at the bottom of the hill was nice for the kids and we met another family there. They’re also building a basketball court. The trails and river views were also beautiful. The restaurant beside the house was great. We went for dinner one night and then desert another. Communication with host wasn’t great. We had tiny ants in the kitchen so had to keep food in the fridge. They were also in bedroom and the issue wasn’t addressed. Also asked for extra trash bags for bathrooms and didn’t receive. The washer and dryer were outside which is fine, but the washing machines are rigged with garden hoses and needed to move one hose to switch from wash to spin. Needs instructions printed or provided. Overall we loved the house but need to address the ant issue and washer."
