Perfect La Jolla Beach & Village Cottage with AC- Walk to Everything

New to VRBO, we've been hosting on the competition's platform for almost 10 years. We've consistently enjoyed 5-star reviews and Superhost status throughout. Now, we're expanding our reach. Visitors to this cottage gush about its amazing location, huge fenced backyard and charming decor! The home is situated exactly halfway between the world-famous La Jolla Cove and Windansea beaches. This delightful, sun-filled cottage is loaded with period detail and modern comforts.

A walker's paradise, all the best that La Jolla has to offer is accessible on foot. A 3-minute stroll down the street to the beach or just one block to some of La Jolla’s most popular restaurants. The Village center is a 5-minute walk where you can enjoy the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, play tennis or pickleball at the LJ Recreation Center, or go shopping. Lovingly maintained by the same La Jolla family for three generations, features of this historic, 2 bedroom, 1 bath home include a large grassy backyard, off street parking for up to two cars, and all the beach gear you’ll need for a great vacation.

Set on a corner lot in a lovely and peaceful residential neighborhood, this detached home enjoys natural light in every room and is close enough to the beach that you can hear the surf at night. Relaxation comes easily when you can simply throw some veggies on the grill while the kids play in the completely enclosed yard.

Constructed in 1925, the cottage enjoys special architectural details of its era, such as hardwood floors throughout, a storybook vaulted ceiling and rounded plaster archways from the living room into the dining area and entryway. The living room has plenty of seating for everyone to lounge on couches together to enjoy a movie on the 60” flat-screen TV. The home is stocked with kids toys hidden inside the coffee table!

The master bedroom features a queen-sized designer canopy bed outfitted with a luxury eco-friendly latex mattress. The 2nd bedroom includes a luxury full-sized bed as well as a toddler-size sleeper futon, suitable for a child 2-5 years old. A Pack'n'Play crib is available for an infant under 2 years. The quaint bathroom has classic tiled floors and a shower/tub combination with excellent water pressure.

The vintage kitchen includes all the essentials including plentiful counter space, gourmet cookware and all types of utensils/dishes for cooking, baking and serving. The dining room's French doors open onto the patio, making for easy indoor/outdoor living.

Enjoy meals in the dining room or alfresco under the shaded pergola. Outdoors, a table for six, a 4-burner BBQ, and outdoor-friendly table and dishware are provided. Truly, we've thought of everything!

We are new to VRBO since October ‘25. We began renting through a property management company in 2016. Their services lacked as can be seen in some of the reviews from that time. However, since then I have been self-managing and consistently enjoy glowing reviews, I asked Chat GPT to summarize my listing and reviews from my other platform:

Guests consistently praise this beautifully maintained older home for its historic charm paired with modern comfort. The property is described as “exquisite” and “full of character,” with thoughtful period details and an inviting outdoor area featuring a picnic table and shower. Its location is a standout — within walking distance to beaches, restaurants, and shops — making it ideal for visitors who love exploring on foot.

Families and repeat guests highlight the home’s comfort and convenience, noting that it’s exceptionally clean (average rating 4.9) and true to its listing (accuracy 5.0). Reviewers mention that the host, Erin, provides everything needed for a relaxing stay, from family essentials to local tips on nearby favorites like The Taco Stand and El Pescador. The combination of location, hospitality, and vintage charm make it a top choice for both couples and small families looking for a memorable getaway.

Perfect Beach Vacation

We loved staying at this well kept, 1920's beach house. It is tastefully decorated and was the perfect home away from home!

Great weekend getaway

We loved this charming house, perfect for "girls getaway," and for relaxation. We put together the jigsaw puzzle (note to others: missing one piece!), read some of the books, cooked, relaxed, walked to the beach and enjoyed the community. We would have liked just a few basic kitchen supplies - salt and pepper, some vegetable oil for cooking, a spice or two - just to get us started. All in all, a great place, we would rent again for sure.

House was unbearably hot!!!

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We just returned from a week stay at the La Jolla cottage and would not recommend this property for the summer. While outside temperatures never got above 75 during our stay, the interior of the house reached close to 90 degrees every afternoon. We used all 5 fans and spent time each day moving the fans around to try to cool the house, but by late afternoon/early evening it was like a sweat lodge inside, with the bedrooms being particularly hot. It was difficult for our two young kids to sleep, especially for our two year old at naptime. Until the owner upgrades the property with a better cooling system, this place is miserable in the summer. Other than the heat, the location is great - only a few blocks from the ocean and very walkable to several beaches as well as restaurants and a grocery store. The kitchen is vintage but functional (but no garbage disposal, dishwasher). Our kids enjoyed the backyard. One other thing to note, the next door neighbors were a bit shady, with lots of people coming and going at all hours, and the cops stopped by the house every day. We were approached one afternoon by a police officer to inquire whether we had seen a gentleman with multiple warrants on the property. The neighborhood is generally nice so this may be a fluke, but it was unsettling with kids to have criminal activity happening right next door.

La Jolla house

Rating Details: The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Beautiful little house. Everything was clean and in working order. It's walking distance from a small beach, grocery store, coffee and several great restaurants. House is a little warm during the day in July, even with the windows open. But it cools down nicely at night with help from fans. Street gets a fair amount of traffic until 10pm or so.
Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2017

Cute House Close to the Beach and Town

We stayed in La Jolla for 5 nights and were looking for a place close to restaurants and the shore. We travel with young children aged 9Y to 2Y so convenience is key. The location couldn't be better. We were able to walk to into town to eat, see the sea lions and go to the park. There is a community centre less than 10min way away with a playground, basketball court and other facilities like a gym. It's a great place for kids. There is also an aquatic centre about 10 mins away too if you wanted to swim in a pool (small fee) if the ocean was too cold or if it is easier with young children. We did have a car to go grocery shopping (there's a Trader Joe's, Wholefoods and Roundy's at the La Jolla Village Square, about a 15-20 min drive north along the shore. You can also go to the IGA which is closer but still likely need a car if you have a lot to buy. We initially found the place on airbnb, but booked with VRBO since we usually use this site and find it more secure. So initially we were dealing with the owner, Erin, until Turnkey took over. I had some reservations at first with dealing with a property manager since they may have not known about the property in detail. But the experience was ok. I asked Turnkey if there was a pack n' play and highchair available. They said no, so I rented the pack n' play. However, when we arrived to the rental, there was a high chair (no crib though), so I'm glad I didn't rent a high chair but would have been upset if there was a crib and I spent money on renting one too. But Turnkey does have a 24hr contact email which was good and they responded promptly. The house is older. Built in the 1920s so it has its charm and idiosyncrasies. Turnkey will send the house rules and since we have lived in a house similar back at home, we're quite used to it (eg. opening the bathroom window while showering as there is no vent). There is no a/c so it can get hot in the summer, but there are fans. And we used the washing machine (newer) but I think the hot and cold taps are reversed. Most kitchen utensils were supplied, but no saran wrap or frying pan (large sauce pan available). Most places we've rented had cooking oil, salt, spices etc. and basic supplies, but there was none here (bare cupboards). So really depends on whether you are 'living' here or just sleeping here during your stay. With young children, we typically eat in more. It's probably more suited for older kids and couples. Considering the location and price was fair.

Great Thanksgiving Stay

Enjoyed our stay in this clean, comfortable, well cared for beach house. Kitchen was well stocked...we fixed Thanksgiving dinner! Location excellent. Would like to have had more TV channels (sports) and cool weather brought some chilly nights with no heat. But, would recommend and come back for sure!

Great Location and Good Service

First up, there were some issues with appliances not working. Look, it's easy to be pleasant and effective with service when all is going well. However, when we were having problems, I made phone calls and everyone was pleasant and did their best to help, although they were hindered with actual action that solved the problems. That could have been a combo of availability of the workmen to fix the appliances,and/ or needing the homeowners approval before making decisions. I feel that the people I talked to did their best to make things happen, and the company did several things to make things right. In general, we were pleased with how they handled the problems. That said, in regards to the house itself... It is in an excellent location for walking to a wonderful beach and also walking to fantastic restaurants, a grocery store, and drug store, and within short drives to anything you want to visit in the area. The home was extremely clean. The beds were comfortable. Decor nice. The kitchen was well equipped. The side yard is large and lovely, great for barbecuing. There is a place for parking up to two cars off the street. There are lots of items like chairs, beach towels, and toys in the closet for relaxing and playing on the beach. The living room is a good size, which we appreciated, however for the size of the room, the TV (something around 30-32 inches) is too small. Also, an interesting note is that when we arrived there were a couple of regular sized rolls of toilet paper. With four adults in the house for a week, we went through those in a short time. I looked in closets for more, and upon finding none, I called the company and was told that if I needed more toilet paper I would need to buy it myself. There were starter tubes of shampoo and conditioner which we appreciated. I expected to provide our own shampoo/conditioner, but I would think that toilet paper was provided, so something to be aware of. There is no A/C but there a lots of fans which you can use to keep airflow going. They told us that we could arrive early at noon, and when we ended up there at 10 am, I called and asked if we could get in earlier. They accommodated an early entry since the house was available. We greatly appreciated that. There were ups and downs with our stay. The company seemed to do their best to help with any problems. The location is great. Would stay again with the caveat that they check everything in working order before we arrive.

Fantastic location!

The place was super cute and centrally located in La Jolla, only two blocks to shopping and restaurants and a short walk to the beach! The little fenced yard was great for our two boys to play in, too. The bedding could have been nicer, a bit scratchy but overall it was a great place. We'd definitely stay here again!
