Nice place, plenty of room. It was nice to hear the river at night. But the walk to the river demands paying attention. Game room is good for kids. Beds sleep good. Kitchen is well equipped. Hot tub is clean. Nice fire pit. Drive way demands paying attention as well. Good place especially if you wanted to fish.
Our family loved every minute we spent at the cabin. Playing board games, trout fishing and relaxing in the hot tub. We will definitely be staying here again soon!!
This house was amazing! It was the best cabin I have ever stayed in. The location was secluded on the river. You really never have to leave the house with all of the amenities provided. Fireplace, game room, hot tub, hammock. And the adoreable town of West Jefferson is only around 18 minutes away. We went to Grayson Hoghlands 30 minutes away for a hike and saw the wild ponies. Wonderful stay
This was exactly what we were looking for. Peaceful and secluded! The river was beautiful. A short hike downs up but I didn't mind it. Everything you would need in a kitchen to cook. About 15 min to downtown West Jefferson which is super cute! It was fabulous!
Relaxing vacation! Quiet and river front. If you have young infants be sure and bring a baby gate. One is provided to block entrance from the bottom level to the main level, but we had to use a quilt rack and boot mat that was provided to block off the main level steps up to the loft. Other than that, no complaints. Well maintained and accurate description as posted online. Would definitely rent again in the future.
Our family had Christmas in this beautiful setting!!! Easy trip to West Jefferson for fun. The house had beautiful views! It was a little more worn than we expected, but functional and cozy. We ended up buying towels and washcloths for everyone due to limited and worn supply. We had 6 adults, a teen, and a baby. The shower curtain liners need to be replaced and the rugs cleaned. We're going to rent again next year, so obviously not too shabby! As a side note ... Our son had to call AAA because he had a flat tire. The servicemen that came out were wonderful!
Our family was celebrating our son’s college graduation. The house and location was perfect for some quiet R and R. Enjoyed the proximity to town and some artistic visits in the area.
Beautiful property. Me and my family enjoyed our stay. Staff is very kind and understanding. Basement bed was a little stiff but not completely uncomfortable. Also I think a rug in there would make that bedroom perfect! Overall this was a very nice getaway spot, I would recommend!
It was just right for our family, great home, fully furnished and all supplies needed, beautiful location, quiet, peaceful, perfect for a great getaway!
Wow!! A group of my friends and I travel to the area every year for a guys trip and this place was the best yet! The house is very spacious and clean. Also just steps from the New River, which we hungout and fished on a few occasions. Great home for a crowd and very secluded...
This dog-friendly cabin had plenty of space for the whole family to spread out and relax. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. When not on long day trips, my family dined in West Jefferson and cooked in the well-equipped kitchen. We all enjoyed our stay!

Amazing River
Hearing the river from the house was so wonderful and relaxing. We spent most of week with open windows so we could hear the river throughout the house.
It was an awesome cabin in the woods. Everything was great, the beds were very comfortable. We had to walk down hill to the river which was a little steep. Overall, I’d love to stay here again. It’s the perfect spot for me because I love being in the mountains! You could sit out on the deck and watch people float down the river and just sit there and listen to the river and the mountains. Great place to stay! Thank you so much. The town of Lansing is awesome. They have an awesome park there and a dog park. Everyone is so nice there. We’ll definitely be back.
Overall very nice house and well designed for large group. Only issue was access to river was steep both to get to and to actually enter the river. Additionally the switchbacks on the driveway intimidated two of the drivers. Navigable but incline and switchbacks on gravel is not for inexperienced drivers (mild warning in property description).

The perfect cabin!
Just got back from a FABULOUS weekend the the Mountain Lair. This cabin is a great place to get away from it all! The cabin was clean and modern with plenty of space for our group of 6. The game room provided lots of fun. The sound of the river was so relaxing. The nearby town of West Jefferson offers unique local shops including a brewery where we had dinner one night. I highly recommend this cabin!

Nice area
Overall we had a wonderful stay. The listing shows a deck by the river with a picnic table but that was no longer there. The climb from the river was made a little easier with the rock path but still a good workout. The kitchen was fully stocked and hot tub worked great. We enjoyed the firepit at night. Since we were there on a holiday weekend, the river was busy with tubers and kayaks, which all waved as they floated by. We very much enjoyed our stay here. Went hiking to nearby areas and had a wonderful time in downtown Ashe County. We checked out Third day Kitchen and also Ashe county Cheese in West Jefferson, I highly recommend!
We loved sitting on the deck looking out to the New River. Location was convenient to the activities we were interested in (Va Creeper Trail....so much fun! And Grayson Highlands state park). We went into West Jefferson for groceries and shopping. House was very clean and equipped nicely. Would definitely return!!!

Happy, but disappointed more than happy
The location and house were wonderful. However, the house was very dirty. My husband had to unclog two drains.
The amount of dust that was on furniture was very gross. In the kitchen, the window was covered in dead bugs. At least clean that!
The dust bunnies under the couches were nasty. We found them when one of our children’s shoes went under the couch and came out covered in dust.
It is a mountain house, but not a tent. I was expecting a mountain house not a luxurious hotel, however the dirt was awful.
The location and the river are wonderful. I would just suggest a deep deep clean.
Great house for our vacation with grandchildren. They loved the hot tub and all the games on the lower level. We made use of almost everything the house had to offer - grill, firepit, outdoor decks, hammock, hot tub, and river.
