My nephew and I had to relocate our hotel from the Premier at the last minute due to a change in the date of the Leicester City game, so we booked into the Bell Gate House. Having seen some reviews, we weren't expecting a great deal, just somewhere to sleep. However, despite the unassuming entrance in a perhaps slightly rundown area of town, we were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The room was very clean and smart, even included (a very slightly bashed) fridge, which we didn't use. We were told by the very friendly manager (owner?) that the beds and mattresses in our room were brand new - and they were the most comfortable beds we have slept on in a hotel for a long while. The only fault in our room was the hose to the shower was a bit leaky, but you are getting wet in the shower anyway so that didn't matter! And yes, the thread on the stair carpet wa a bit bare - but very clean. We knew that breakfast wasn't included. For the price, this is the best value hotel in Leicester!

First impression was the hotel clean and tidy. My friend and I choose twin room option. I personally didnt get much sleep due to the mattress, there was no support, and the springs were pertruding, making it a very nosiy and uncomfortable night.

It’s a very basic B&B, I choose it because of the location, the receptionsit was very helpful, no problems there, but the room is quite small, the beds are terrible, there is mould on the bathroom wall, and stains on the towel. It’s not the best value for money, considering other options in the city, but it was about right for me purely because of the location just a 5 minute walk from the Mattioli Arena where I had business to do during my stay.

Fine for one night

Positives: the reception man was nice and the location was very easy to get to. Negatives: the room smelled bad, there was mould in the bathroom, and one of my pillows had mascara on. Additionally, the room was very cold, and the bed was not comfortable. Unfortunately the people in the room next door were very loud and woke me up at 5am- obviously not the fault of the hotel itself but another reason for a restless night. I don’t think I would stay again.

Small clean room, area not so great

For the price it is okay but it is a walk from the city centre and feels like it is in a rough area. Have to call to be let in and don’t agree with having to provide photo ID as this isn’t required in the UK Suspect the property is primarily used by the council to house immigrants or homeless as the info leaflet says they’ll let local authorities know if you get kicked out for any reason. Room was surprisingly clean but small, mattress was thin and could feel the springs. When I arrived I didn’t think I would actually stay but it was clean enough and the inside is much better than the outside.

Don't be put off by the exterior, the room was great!! Very clean, comfortable bed and had everything needed for a nights stay. The gentleman that treated us was really helpful in helping us find parking. I would definitely book again.
