Five hundred years old! Possibly haunted. Thomas Paine hung out here. My room walls had Tudor beams. The tv was small, but who needs television when you’re in Lewes? Carpet could use a wash, but they’ve definitely moved beyond the rushes on the floor stage of things. Conveniently located. Nice staff. Continental breakfast was great for a fall weekday. Plenty of toasties.

Dreadful.
Alas, this was the worst hotel I've seen for many years. It is in a great old building with a fascinating history, but has been run into the ground. It is dirty, squalid, damp, malodorous and depressing.

Unfortunately it feels a little tired and lethargic, needs updating but could be so much more. Nice town location and close the Lewis castle.
