This was the perfect home base for me to visit family...three blocks away. Shopping and great restaurants are only a few miles away and LOTS of choices. And Rina the host went above and beyond to assist in check in and out, and when I locked myself out. Clean and quiet. On street parking right in front of the house. Nice family neighborhood with well kept homes.
Excellent, accommodating Host. Very Helpful. It would be useful to have a lamp next to the bed or a light you could turn on from the bed. Otherwise, a very comfortable space and very clean. Very convenient to the Northern side of LA. You don’t have to fight the LA awful traffic to go most places on the North side. I would stay there again
I really hit the jackpot when I selected this property. I was greeted and warmly welcomed at the door by host Rena who showed me around. Her motherly spirit was evident in the care she put into the unit. From extra towels, to water and orange juice in the fridge and cookies, apples, and flowers on the dining table. The bed was wonderfully comfy with extra blankets available in the closet. As a single female I also appreciated the very bright automatic light that comes on as you approach the door after dark.
The construction of this unit was clearly a previous part of the family home that had been sectioned off with a wall to create a self-contained separate external locked-door-accessible apartment. Homey wooden floors, an immaculately clean bathroom stocked with all the amenities of a better hotel, a dining table with two chairs, a fridge, a microwave, a toaster, and an electric kettle were all included.
I work in real estate in Tokyo and we call this a "grandmother's apartment" because often an extended family here has a separate attached residence for grandma as part of their home.
The neighborhood is best described as upscale and is a network of wide tree-lined streets of family home after family home. Very safe and easy to walk, with lots of free street parking available too.
If you are looking for a place in the valley and want to have a home away from home I cannot recommend this beautiful property enough!

Incredible place to live a good time. I recommend to it too much. The owners are very amazing with us and they are respectful that it for us is very important.
It was fine to my standards, but could have saved a couple hundred at other facilities. I expected more for the price.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Tiny room with thin walls, you can hear the conversations from the house next door. Hard, squeaky bed. No A/C, hot. Bedding and towels are old, pillows on the bed are old and flat and only one for each side. The bathroom was dirty, there were poop flecks in the toilet leftover from the last guests. For a bed and breakfast, the bed and the breakfast were sad. Bagels and granola bars. Super disappointed with this place. Definitely looked better in the pictures.
rina is so warm, welcoming, and accommodating. i feel like i am home in the best way--safe, cared for, even spoiled.

First of all, there was just my wife and I.
Pros: Rina, our host, was very accommodating and attentive. If the review was just for her she would rate a 5. If you've ever backpacked across Europe, I'm sure this room would be pleasantly nostalgic.
Neither pro nor con: The room was small, clean and minimally furnished. Tiny bathroom. Dorm sized refrigerator on a wooden box with microwave sitting on top.
Cons: No place to put clothes. No dresser or shelves. I've lived out of a suitcase before but there wasn't even a stand for the
suitcase. We brought carry-ons only. We used the only chair and the floor. ## No facilities for fresh coffee. Instant coffee only. ##
No washcloth provided, had to ask. She brought a few. They were old and well used...but clean. ## Construction noise. They were converting the garage into another room next door. We weren't told about this. The hammering started at 9am or so. It had been a long drive the day before and we could have used the rest. Not a restful time. ## The bed...hard and uncomfortable. ## No electrical outlets near the bed for charging cell phones or.. ## a small table partially blocked the narrow walkway leading to the room entrance. You had to kind of scoot by.
The Private Home hosts were very friendly and inviting. The room was spotless and had a nice basket of goodies, fresh fruit and granola. There was milk for coffee and a coffee pot.
By having a private entrance with full bath it was the best of both worlds.
The Hosts lives and long ago immigrant stories was fascinating. The couple celebrated 49 years of marriage while I was there. And it's easy to see they're still best friends and genuinely enjoy sharing with each other. Witnessing that alone was worth the price of admission! I'd recommend the Summer Leaf hands down!!! :)
rina is a gracious, friendly, caring, solicitous host. i loved my stay here last june and loved it more this year! i had a few requests (i.e., breakfast foods), all of which were kindly fulfilled. the space is peaceful and safe; the location is great. i hope to stay at summer leaf on my next trip to visit my family.
Nice studio like accommodation, convenient depending where you want to be.
The staff/ Owner is very pleasant and helpful.
standard good breakfast and separate shower.
Stayed at Summer Leaf for a week and loved it. Rina the host is sweet and caring. She goes out of her way to make sure her guest have everything they need and desire. Summer Leaf is located in a quite neighbor. The room is very spacious and super clean. I would rate this bnb five golden stars. I would definitely stay here again when in California. Another plus of Summer Leaf is that it is located in a convenient place, close in distances to move studios, theme parks, and Hollywood.
rina, hostess/manager, was delightful, helpful. and attentive. i loved the privacy and i loved the very convenient location in a cute, safe, residential area there was a drop in temps, and the dpace heater saved the day. i would return..
This was a perfectly fine place to stay, as I was on a research trip and it was perfectly situated between Northridge and Westwood. The place was clean and the host was very friendly, attentive, and responsive to my requests. I was by myself so the space was enough. I think it would have felt a bit cramped if there was another person with me for a week. There isn't really a sitting area (only a straight back chair next to the bed and a small dinet set for two). But if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in the room, then the space is ideal for one person and fine for two people. The main issue I have with Summer Leaf is that there is an automatic $180 fee for "extra guest." I was alone and when I asked if the fee could be taken off I was informed that it couldn't. So if you're going to book this place and you are a single individual, make sure to try to get the "extra guest" fee waived before you finalize the reservation.
Easy to get to Cal State Northridge and to the 405 and 101 Freeways.
Nice Quiet neighborhood. Owners were very nice and responsive to requests and information. Bed was very comfortable.
