Rosewood Mac is a unique farm stay with an equestrian focus in the historic goldrush township of Macclesfield. Home to about 10 horses and donkeys, local wildlife includes kangaroos, koalas, kookaburras, cockatoos and more. The property is next to the Kidman Trail, 10 mins to Kuitpo Forest and historic Strathalbyn. It is also close to the Fleurieu Peninsula and McLaren Vale wine district. Enjoy views of gum studded hills with grazing horses and kangaroos, and unwind under the shade of gum trees.

Rosewood Mac sits in the small township of Macclesfield, just 43 minutes drive away from the nearest Adelaide accommodation. Nearby Strathalbyn, Mount Barker, Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary, and Hahndorf. Comida Hahndorf and Hahndorf Hill Winery are some of the few attractions in the Hahndorf area.
This farm stay South Australia getaway is the perfect family staycation for vacationers with a queen-sized bed up in the loft and a couch, which can be converted into a single bed on the ground floor. A cozy 190-square-foot tiny house with rain water as a water source, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities including a cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers) for you to use. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be advised that there may be other guests on the property—one other tiny house is located some distance away on the same property and that riding lessons and horse training may take place nearby on occasion. If you want to book in groups, you can contact the land host beforehand to make arrangements.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny house and its surrounding areas, except the main house and fenced garden.
NOTICE TO ALL GUEST: Rosewood Mac is approximately 60 meters away from the second tiny house which is Gums N roses and 50 meters away from the shed.

- Mount Barker is a town known for its charming main street featuring historic buildings, cafes, and restaurants. It is also a popular spot for tourists visiting the Great Southern region, and visit the scenic Porongurups and Stirling Ranges.
- Strathalbyn is a historic and picturesque settlement renowned for its architecture, gardens, and river walks. It is the eastern gateway to the Fleurieu Peninsula and only a short drive to the Murray River and Lower Lakes.
- Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary mirrors Australia's ideal ecosystem, hosting diverse native wildlife like koalas, kangaroos, and platypuses in their natural habitat, providing a unique glimpse into South Australia's fauna.
Getting Around:
By car: 40 minutes by car to and from Adelaide
By public transport: No public transport direct to Macclesfield but taxis and Uber are available between Mt. Barker and Macclesfield.
Train and bus from Melbourne to Adelaide are approximately 10-12 hr drive and 8 hrs by private car. An hour flight to Adelaide Airport, then 40 minutes drive to Macclesfield.

- No smoking allowed on the property
- Mobile reception is good for Optus and Telstra
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Compost bin is available for guests to dispose of their trash
- Please be advised that we have livestock (and noise) on our property
- Please note that this is a PET-FRIENDLY property, and pet policies will be sent prior to arrival
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Pre-orders
Visiting horses' accommodation or boarding is available for:
- $25 for indoor stables
- $15 per night in electrified yards
- $20 per night in the yard with shelter
Activities
- Picnic via donkey-drawn cart at local scenic spots is available for an extra cost of $250 per couple
- Horse riding using our horses is $100 per lesson. For guests who brought their horses for lessons, the cost is $85.
- If you plan to bring your horse, please inform the land host in advance so that horse boarding can be arranged ahead of time.
In addition, we provide agistment for up to eight horses and ponies in addition to our own two horses and two donkeys. Keep in mind that we have horse owners visiting their horses occasionally and riders taking lessons once or twice per week.
Safety guidelines
- Fire ban period is from 15NOV23 to 30APR24
- Guests are advised to follow the safety guidelines discussed with the land host
- Please do not enter animal paddocks or yards without the land host's permission
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- Please expect occasional noise from farm animals and machinery as the property is a working farm stay accommodation
- For stays of 5 nights or more (or for bookings of 5 nights or more), an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
