We absolutely loved our stay here. The accommodations are rustic, which is as to be expected when staying in the jungle, but having private bathrooms and a big bed with mosquito netting was great. We didn’t miss air conditioning as it cooled down nicely at night. The elephants were a big highlight of course and the food and drink options were great considering how remote it was, we didn’t ended up wanting anything more. The shuttle between mountainside and riverside was also great as we got to go on a little excursion to see the elephants bathing in the river. Highly recommend, two nights was perfect for us.

Amazing resort

The hotel was very spacious, close to the resort cafe and reception and within walking distance to the riverbed and sanctuary. It had good amenities with a large outdoor shower with shower gel/ shampoo and toilet paper. In the bed room there was bottled water and kettle for teas or coffees, homemade mosquito repellent and soap bar, there was also a hair dryer and a mosquito net which was an extra bonus. The resort offer free shuttle to the riverbed however we walked down and made our way over to the sanctuary it was amazing to see the elephants roaming around with the designated handlers who were so friendly despite the language barrier for some. Overall an amazing experience and would definitely come back again.

Mountain beauty

This beautiful sanctuary truly is magical! If you think you're going to have any western luxuries, please reduce your expectations! This is a rural eco lodge. We stayed in the mountain cabins and we didn't have hot water, so we made due with coldish water. That really was the only inconvenience. Food was amazing! From the staff to the elephant handlers, it was sooooo great! Being able to see the elephants walk around and feed them and watch their personalities shine, really was magical. As for the tours, please do not miss them! We did 2 tours. The jungle temple trek with Chat and the full day elephant hike with Tip(Dip) were amazing! They are so funny and knowledgeable! Enjoy this sanctuary!

What an awesome experience we had. Love the sweetest people that take care of the property. They’re so mindful of everything and very kind when letting us walk around their village. They share their love for the elephants and how much they mean. Just a wonderful place!

Amazing place!

I had an amazing stay at Chai Lai. Everyone in the staff were all so kind and helpful, and really made it a wonderfully relaxing stay. The grounds themselves are so serene, clean and with a country-like style. Beautiful views over the mountains from somewhat simple, but yet luxurious cottages. I mea, what else do you need when you have this scenery? There are some (very friendly) dogs walking around, a parrot came to sit on my shoulder as I attempted to take a picture, but the real attraction here is of course the elephants, who visits three times a day along with their care-takers, often walking just outside my cottage. You can pet and feed the elephants under the supervision of their very friendly and helpful care-takers, and take as many pictures as you like! I did a one-day tour that included walking and swimming with elephants, a trek in the jungle, swimming in waterfalls and riding down a river on a bamboo raft. An experience of a lifetime! Other days I did nothing, but taking in the scenery, reading, eating in the restaurant and letting the stress of the city slowly run off. Oh, most importantly - Chai Lai is also a social organisation, giving money to a charity that trains young minority women to learn English, Thai and hospitality, thus making them less vulnerable to trafficking. Stay a few nights here - you won't regret it!
