We loved everything about the Cabin and the stay. It was clean and perfect for our weekend getaway. The bed was comfortable and the cabin had all the furnishings you would need. The Bison were right outside the door and we loved watching them while enjoying morning coffee. Traveled into town to eat a few establishments. Would return for another stay!
Super cozy cabin. It’s bigger than it looks from outside. Very comfortable beds. Enjoyed sipping coffee on the deck while watching the bison. We will definitely stay here again.
I have family in the area and was able to finally book this rental, as it's always been unavailable when I was visiting. This Vrbo rental was the best one I've stayed in the Grinnell area. Super clean, cute, and decorated so nicely for the holidays. It's a small house, but the open floor layout makes it not feel very small. Highly recommend, can't wait to stay there again.
Property was great and both Karl and Beth were super hosts. Karl spent a lot of time with us telling us about the bison business as we watched the herd. Kitchen was probably one of the best equipped ones we have seen in all of our VRBO experiences.
Great property and amazing property owners! The cabin is awesome, clean, comfortable and super relaxing. The property owners are the best and worth the stay just to meet them. I screwed up my booking and they bent over backwards to help me out. Thank you! We’ll be back next year and staying 2 days next time….
We came to the area to visit Grinnell College with our daughter, and we needed a place nearby to stay. The cabin was perfect for our family of four (two adults, two teens). Bethany's directions and instructions for check in were great! It snowed while we were travelling to Iowa, so we arrived later in the evening than we'd planned. It was very dark and snowy, but we were able to find the cabin without any problems, for which we were very grateful after being on the road in low visibility conditions for over four hours. The cabin was very clean and super cute, and it had everything we needed for our stay. There was plenty of space for the four of us. Our teens enjoyed sleeping in the lofts. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals. We all enjoyed seeing the bison and walking the loop around the bison enclosure. The whole area was so beautiful after the snow storm. There were beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the freshly fallen snow and nothing but farmland as far as you could see. It was very peaceful. The road that the cabin is on is very quiet and great for walking or jogging. I went for a sunrise run, and not a single car went by! If you want to visit Grinnell College, this is a good location. It was an easy drive to campus. We had an excellent lunch at the Prairie Canary restaurant in Grinnell, and we highly recommend it if you make the trip into town. All in all, the cabin was perfect, and we'd definitely stay here again!
We stayed in this unique, unexpectedly convenient home away from home for four days. It's comfortable, well appointed, and one of a kind. Open floor plan with large breakfast bar and island to accommodate homemade meals if desired. Lots of extras show the care that has been taken to make your stay a pleasant one. You can truly make your time here whatever you like-- tranquil farm/ranch stay or fun adventure getaway for the kids. Older kids will love the lofts! The bison visited in their pen (+/- 20ft from the cabin) every night at around 8pm, making for lasting memories! Grill available at the cabin, but we chose to eat at area restaurants--10 min to 1hr drive away, depending on your preference-- all reasonably priced, delicious, and with very friendly service. The property owners couldn't have been kinder or more responsive. Keep in mind, this is a working farm, and you may hear occasional equipment. Not at all disruptive and adds to the charm! Loved seeing the owners' horses and learning a bit about farm/ranch life from the owner when shopping in their small gift shop (gifts, themed items, and bison meat products available for purchase).
One word of warning: There is one toilet and one
walk-in shower in the cabin. The shower may be difficult to maneuver for larger, disabled, and/or elderly guests. Worked well for us, but could see it being a concern for some.
Overall, we would highly recommend Sunset Hills Bison Ranch!
We rented the cabin at Sunset Hills Bison Ranch and we had a great time. The cabin was super clean, had all the amenities we could ask for, and was warm and cozy. We had fun viewing the bison, quite a good sized herd. I would like to go back again in the summer when we could grill some bison meat from the retail store. Definitely would recommend! Bethany was great!
Sunset Hills Bison Ranch was a fabulous find for our family getaway. We were looking for a unique experience for fall break and Sunset Hills delivered! Beth was a wonderful host. The cabin was cozy, and the bison viewing was spectacular. We only planned to stay one night and liked it so much we came back two nights later. We will definitely go back again!
We came for a wedding had a great time cabin was good has a leak in the roof but the host had told us about it so we were aware of the problem will come back
We are so happy to have found this sweet property. The owners were very helpful and quick to reply to any questions we had. The cabin is super clean and had all the amenities necessary. I highly recommend staying at this wonderful location. My son is a student at nearby Grinnell College and I definitely plan on coming back soon!
Nice place super quiet. Cabin was just as pictured. Clean and all the cooking supplies you need. Bison were cool to see and came close enough to give them treats supplied by the host. All in all a great stay.
We stayed here for one night on our cross country road trip. The cabin was really great, especially for our bison loving kiddo. And the walk around the trail to see the bison was really cool for our family. And the sunset off the deck was amazing. We'd stay again if we were back in the area.
This unique setting, just 1 - 2 miles off Interstate 80 yet quiet and beautiful made a perfect weekend for young adult son, parents, and grandma too. The 3 separate sleeping areas (2 lofts each up a short flight of steep stairs, plus a main floor bedroom) made the space perfect (and affordable) for our family. All the fixings purchased at a quick grocery stop in Iowa City on our way to the farm, with burgers we made from Sunset Hills ground bison patty, made for a convenient, memorable and delicious meal. Highly recommend!
We did a1 night get-a-way without kids and enjoyed the peaceful cabin. We took a walk out to see the bison and enjoyed seeing the babies that had been born recently. Grinnell was a quick drive away for great pizza. Good experience overall.
I was looking for a weekend getaway for our anniversary that my husband would enjoy. A cabin on a bison ranch sounded like a great plan. Being only an hour from Des Moines made this the perfect weekend escape. It was easy to find and excellent check-in directions were provided. We were in love with the cabin immediately. It could not have bern cuter! The smell of the wood, the layout and the decor added to the ambiance. While this was an anniversary trip for two, we couldn't help imagining how much fun our family would have here. The cabin is literally stocked with everything you could need. All you have to do is bring yourself and some groceries. In the morning we watched the bison have breakfast and on the second day we even threw them some treats. Watching these majestic animals right outside your door is amazing. The peace and relaxation the space promotes is incredible as well. What started as a trip I thought my husband would really enjoy easily became one of our favorite experiences together. We highly recommend Sunset Hills Bison Ranch for everyone.
