This historic Italianate building is beautiful. The room we stayed was huge with separate sitting room. The staff upgraded to this Presidential room to enjoy while we stayed on slow quiet weekday night. We appreciated the original architecture, updated bathroom and jacuzzi. Only we wished if there was a nice bar and restaurant in it as there used to be back in the days. But there are some restaurants and brewery near by. So overall we really enjoyed. It was a nice surprise to find such one of a kind hotel near Maquoketa cave state park.

I really enjoyed the age of the hotel and the history behind it! Everything inside was clean, and although it had a slightly creepy feel at first, I think old buildings sometimes have that atmosphere, and I actually kind of like it! The owner was wonderful and very helpful. Everything is older, but that's part of the charm, even if it's not quite from the 1800s! A few minor complaints: the little Keurig only made a 6-ounce cup of coffee and was a bit slow. Breakfast was pretty basic, consisting of bananas, granola bars, and cereal. The bathtub faucet/shower kept getting stuck, and the water didn't drain properly. Overall, I enjoyed the experience. I appreciate historic buildings and their character, and despite a few little inconveniences, I would definitely stay here again!

This is a old school classic hotel. Beautiful decor and very clean rooms. Only rated a 4 due to the free breakfast was very limited. There were 2 cereal options, fruit and yogurt. Was expecting a larger variety. Overall a great hotel

The Decker Hotel is an amazing place. Like going back in history. The antique decor and old pictures of the place are great. We had a spacious room with a jacuzzi and a four-poster king size bed. Located right in downtown Maquoketa and walking distance to shops, restaurants and the brewery.

Worth a trip to Maquoketa, IA just to stay at the Decker Hotel. Charming, historic property at reasonable rates. Serve yourself breakfast was minimal but understandable given the cost. The faithful restoration lets you go back in time while still having modern comforts like central air and updated bathroom. We would go back.

We love history and this hotel is awesome from an historical viewpoint. If you need a coffee maker in the room, our room did not. If you need a couch this room doesn’t have one. If you want awesome ambiance with a beautiful slice of history, I highly recommend this hotel. Not much of a breakfast, but don’t miss the City Limit restaurant just on the edge of town!

Our stay here was ok. Room was clean and comfortable. It was very cool to stay in a peace of history with the hotel being from late 1800s. But when we booked the hotel there was a restaurant and bar that were supposed to be open and they were not, and were not notified. Just go somewhere for breakfast instead of the hotels. Also the gentleman running the place could not speak English, so it was hard to communicate. Overall we would stay here again. It is right in town, you can walk anywhere and your 15min from the caves.

Room was clean and pleasant. Desk person unusual, hovered when I was in lobby area waiting to be picked up by friend. English was passable. I checked out early by 2 days and have yet to receive a credit for those days as was charged full 7 days when arrived. Desk person seemed confused when I checked out early as if unsure what to do. Overall , not bad considering choices in area are very slim.
