"Very disappointing. The food at a ryokan is at least half the value of the experience. I have been to many ryokans from budget to luxury and by far, the food here, was the worst. Tasteless and poorly prepared. Like it came from the fridge to perhaps the microwave in some cases and then to our table. "A wonderful stay. The morning service at the temple was a profound experience. The introduction to zazen was great, though Japanese speakers will get most out of this - ditto the lecture before morning service. The meals were excellent, and everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. All together, this short stay was a true highlight of my month in Japan. "A nice Ryokan Hotel. It's rice theme is carried through in the hotel decor as the area is surrounded by rice fields. Good concept & architecture or interior design. Hotel is next to a fast flowing river & tall Bamboo grove which give it a unique continuous sound & calming ambiance....next to your room. "The picture, the huge crab aquarium at the entrance, the crab marking on the room numbers tell it all, this is a Ryokan for eating really good crab. Sakai, is a far place, and it is pretty old and run down, but it would all be worth it for the crab. "This was my first time to stay in a Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) and I really like it! The hotel was a bit old but still in good condition. They have indoor & outdoor hotspring pool plus many other facilities for you to enjoy during your stay. Buffet breakfast & dinner both were great too. Free shuttle service available too to pick up from/drop off to Kagaonsen station. Thumb up!"
