Responsible rock hunting and hiking are allowed. With ensuite baths and sliding glass doors in four of the bedrooms, this 5-bedroom, 4-bath provides both privacy and quality family time.
Easy driving distance to Mason, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Junction, the Llano River, & the Guadalupe River.
We have contactless check-in. The cabin will be unlocked. You will be provided with turn-by-turn instructions and given a gate code prior to your arrival. We live on the ranch and are available by text or phone. ~ If you are arriving after dark, please let us know in advance so we can turn on exterior lights for you.
Scenic 486-acre ranch with cliffs, rolling hills and hiking trails. Bluebonnets and other colorful wildflowers abound in this area in the spring. Chart your own course or use the ‘Bluebonnet Trails’ guide to map a route.
Go left or right from our main road, Lazy H Rd, and in 9 miles be cooling off in the Llano River. An additional 9 miles to the left and you can explore the historic town of Mason. This small town has plenty of history and two local museums. Antiques, collectibles, boutique clothing, or just plain ‘stuff’ can be discovered in multiple shops in and around the courthouse square. Tour the restored 19th century Hill Country landmark, Seaquist House, and historic Fort Mason which was established in 1851. The longest continually operating theater in West Texas, the Odeon Theater built in 1928, continues to show first run films (ticket price usually $4!), classic movies, live music concerts and performances (ticket prices vary).
Mason town square houses a number of dine-in and take-out restaurants; the historic Willow Creek Café & Club, known for their year-round seasonally decorated holiday trees and Texas-size Chicken Fried Steak, serves American fare, Joe’s Italian Restaurant, Cooper’s Original Pit Bar-B-Que, Nacho’s Café and Agave Jaslico serving Tex-Mex, Santos-The Silerio Family Restaurant specializing in Toquitos, Rico Café (Tex-Mex breakfast & lunch only), James River Icehouse, and pizza at THC Beer Company and T. Bo’s Bar and Mercantile.
The Eckert James River Bat Cave, one of the largest bat nurseries in the country with a population of 4-6 million Mexican freetail bats, is located about 20 miles from Mason. Open from mid-May to mid-September an evening watching the bats fly out to hunt is an incredible experience.
The entire Central Texas area is home to award winning Texas wineries and cozy tasting rooms where you can lounge and enjoy the best of Texas wines. Check out the offerings in Mason at Robert Clay Vineyards Estate Winery, Murphy Creek Cellars, Sandstone Cellars Wine Bar, Parr Vineyards & Cellars, Fly Gap Winery, Peters Prairie Vineyard, and Blackmon Wines. For the Craft Beer lover visit Bear King Brewing Company or THC Beer Company.
Fast food options include Subway, Dairy Queen (every Texas town has a DQ), Laredo Taco Company, Mason Sno-cones, and Mason Donuts. Excellent coffee and pastry can be found at La Copa Joe’s.
The German town of Fredericksburg is 1 hour down Hwy 87. Often referred to as the heart of Texas Wine Country, Gillespie County boasts over 75 wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms. Fredericksburg is also known for great antique and boutique shops, wonderful restaurants, multiple festivals, and small-town Texas charm. This historic destination is not to be missed. Fredericksburg is home to three amazing museums: National Museum of the Pacific, Admiral Nimitz Gallery and the Pioneer Museum.
Kerrville is also nearby at 1 hour where you can kayak or paddleboard on the Guadalupe River, visit a nature center, or picnic on the riverbank in Schreiner Park.
Nearby Junction (27 miles) is listed among the top one-hundred disc golf courses in Texas with three 18+ hole courses. Junction is also home to South Llano River State Park with kayaking, tubing, hiking, and fishing.
Legacy Ranch is 486 acres of semi-rugged central Texas hill country. Numerous trails and hunting roads lead through the property to beautiful overlooks, ancient streambeds, and hidden creeks. You may collect rocks, etc. without disrupting the natural area. Maps are provided in your cabin and on the wall at the Rec Center. This is country hiking so wear comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes, take water, a whistle, and a map. You may see wildlife, road runners, squirrels, deer, snakes, porcupines, racoons, etc. For your safety, please DO NOT approach wildlife.

Dogs are allowed on Legacy Ranch with an additional pet fee of $40 per pet. Dogs are allowed in the house but not on the furniture. Please clean up after your dog if they “do business” in the yard. A dog enclosure is located in the yard under a shady tree should you wish to use it.
Smoking of any kind is NOT allowed in the house or in the Recreation Center. Please smoke outside, away from the doors. To keep our natural area clean and reduce the chance of a fire, cigarette butt receptacles are located on the porch and in the pool area. Please use them!
A fire pit is located on your property for your use. If you want a campfire, you MUST purchase firewood from us for $20 per large bundle. Using local firewood minimizes the risk of pests and infection. Each cabin is equipped with smores sticks for your convenience. Occasionally, we will be under a county-wide burn ban. This place is amazing. Beautiful setting in the country. Great family vacation location with activities for every age. The owner and ranch staff definitely go the extra mile to ensure your stay is perfect.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was nice, clean, and in a very private location. The Rec center was a plus and the pool was always clean. Would love to stay again in the future.
What a wonderful place for the family. We had such fun and Billy was the best host. It is rural but we loved that! We would love to go back in the future.
Stay at the property was wonderful. Having access to the trails is a great touch. Perfect place far an quiet getaway. Mr Billy is very accommodating and communication is great. Would definitely stay again.
Great layout of the house for four couples! Awesome property to hike, great area for firepit, and nice grills to cook out on for a group. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
The rooms were spacious and the main room was perfect for our group to gather to eat and relax. The property was fun to explore and we enjoyed the recreation center and pool. Perfect way to cool off from the heat. The owner was very friendly and accommodating.
This was definitely one of the best vacations I've taken my family on. The house was spacious and clean. The property was absolutely beautiful. The rec center was a short walk and had everything you could think of to entertain the kids. We could not have asked for more and we will absolutely be back!!!
The property is gorgeous. House was well equipped with everything we needed. The activity center was perfect for evening family game time. Great place if you like seclusion and outdoor fun. Would love to return, 3 days was not enough time! Thank you Billy and Cindy for a perfect vacation!
The cabin had everything that you would need, and was superbly located in a scenic ravine within easy walking distance of the swimming pool located at the well-equipped recreation center.
Easy drive into Mason, TX for supplies and activities.
Definite repeat.
My family and I really enjoyed this stay. What struck me was how much room we had for everything. We hiked around the area, explored the creeks, and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. I guess we did. The rec center was about twice as big as I expected with plenty to do. We had our kids 10 & 12 years old with us, this place was right up their alley. The creeks were full of really interesting rocks as well, but I'm not enough of a rockhounder to comment.
First off, we had a splendid time. This is perfect for a family reunion or church retreat. Also, the closest store is about 30 miles away. It is also very secluded therefore, expect bugs and some wildlife. We are country folk, so this did not bother us one bit. Staying in the main house and guest house was great for our family of 10 plus 1 Boxer. Ages 72-1, and yes we had everyone with us! The pool was clean and occupied our time as did the rec room! I wish the creek had some water while we stayed but even without, the views were spectaculor! We enjoyed our time here and if we ever need a large location with several large families, this is a place I would recommend because it has 3 houses in the vacinity for everyone to get together and enjoy the week.
Our stay in Cliffside was all that we could’ve hoped for with the exception of the gym no longer being a part of the experience, but I think everyone got their workouts in through hiking all through the property. Besides, who goes to a “getaway” to workout?! We spent our mornings playing in the rec room (which had so many different activities to choose from), hiking on and off the trails near the house, or sitting outside and relaxing peacefully. In the afternoons, we’d visit the pool and have solid family time while still enjoying the 90+ degree heat in October. In the evenings, we had plenty of firewood to make great bonfires to sit under the beautiful state and make s’mores before heading to a quiet and restful slumber. All-in-all, it was a laid back and rejuvenating weekend with zero stress, zero timelines to stick to, and lots of playing or chillin. My recommendations to the owner would be leave some cleaning equipment in the kitchen (I.e. clothe, sponges, cleaning solution), fix the toilet chain in one of the bathrooms, and update pictures/amenities on website since the gym is no longer offered.
We stayed at Cliffside with a group of 9 2 dogs and had plenty of room for all. We hit the pool and the trails daily and loved the rec room with all the games to play. Thanks for sharing your beautiful property, we hope to come back!

Perfect family vacation
This is the perfect location for a large family vacation.
Activities for every age.
The owner and his staff are amazing.
The Cliffside house was fantastic and Billy and his wife were wonderful host making sure we were all taken care of. Hill country is a beautiful place and this house puts you right in the middle with beautiful views all around. Great house for a multi family gathering with plenty of room for everyone. We highly recommend Cliffside and look forward to coming back.
We stayed with a large group. The area is secluded enough to stargaze in peace. We Slept well and hung out in the pool every evening. Kitchen had all the tools needed to cook and the game room was great to entertain. The host was very communicative and helpful. We plan to make this a reoccurring location for this trip.
