About this property
A Landmark 1891 Church Conversion - Armadale
According to the heritage record, this building dates to 1891, when it was constructed as a church on the corner of Kooyong Road and Wattletree Road. It later served as the Holy Advent parish hall before an architectural conversion transformed it into a private home. Three eras of use. One building, still standing on the same Armadale corner it has occupied for over 130 years.
Properties like this are not built. They are inherited.
At the heart of the home is a church-scale central void: a soaring vertical volume framed by exposed structural beams and the proportions of the original nave. This is the kind of space that simply cannot be reproduced. It is what makes this residence unlike anything else available in the inner south-east.
An original door opens from the living area to a galley kitchen. A gas cooktop and oven, a coffee machine and everything needed for cooking and entertaining. A breakfast bar seats four and doubles as a casual dining space when the rest of the home is in use.
The main living areas are heated and air conditioned. Each bedroom has its own reverse cycle unit, allowing temperature to be set independently. A Smart TV with streaming services is in the main living area.
Ground floor: living room, dining room, kitchen, study and library, reading nook, powder room, laundry with a front-loading washing machine and condenser dryer, and access to a private walled courtyard with outdoor dining and garden.
Level 1: the first bedroom, with a double bed, and its full bathroom.
Level 2: the main bedroom, a generous king room with its own ensuite.
Level 3: the loft bedroom. A queen bed sits beneath the original steeply pitched timber ceiling. Dark stained timber planks follow the roofline overhead. A skylight opens the space to the sky. A small sitting area is tucked beneath the peak.
Level 4: a private loft lounge at the top of the building with views over the Armadale skyline. This is the kind of room that guests remember.
From place of worship, to parish hall, to private residence. This is a home of genuine heritage significance in one of Melbourne's most tightly held pockets.
The full home is yours across all five levels: three bedrooms, two bathrooms and the powder room, the main living and dining area, kitchen, study, laundry and the private courtyard. Your host will meet you on arrival.
