The Pickled Onion was hands down the best place we stayed in the Yucatán. The accommodations were lovely, the food delicious, the pool area clean and relaxing and the owner and staff incredibly friendly and helpful
The Pickled Onion is a real treat. It was the third time we stayed there and each time has been perfect. The property is absolutely beautiful. The pool and surrounding area is clean. The food is excellent, as is the service. The rooms are spacious, with a small refrigerator, air conditioning, ceiling fan and other amenities. The breakfast - served al fresco - is wonderful and included in the price of the room! The staff is helpful and attentive. Can't say enough about this place.
Really beautiful grounds. Great pool. Restaurant was wonderful. Simple, clean rooms and attentive staff. Would have preferred an earlier coffee option (breakfast starts at 7:30) or in-room coffee maker, but that is the only small drawback. Great location! Highly recommended!
This property is absolutely magical. I loved the beds and the linens are extremely high end top quality. The restaurant is absolutely excellent. The staff are kind and helpful. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend.
The Mayan style of cabins added atmosphere. The grounds were well maintained with greenery and flowers. The pool was clean and the grounds provided a comfortable place to relax or have a snack. The restaurant's food was the best we had in the Yucatan. Our waiters were attentive and efficient. Our room was comfortable although the toilet button sometimes got stuck, so we had to be mindful of not having the toilet run. The owners was wonderful and offered suggestions and recommendations. We would go back for sure. It was a short drive to all the sites we wanted to visit - historic sites and town. Bring cash to pay for the room and meals.
Excellent location, great friendly staff.
Unique and beautiful casitas.
Wonderful restaurant featuring local food.
Very reasonably priced with breakfast included.
I don't have any complaints or issues. The grounds are gorgeous. The tropical ambience is truly the real thing. Swimming pool. Restaurant and bar on the grounds! Even massages are offered. The private cabins or huts are so charming and I slept like a baby. If you're high maintenance or 5 star you might check other options but for me. It's a win win staycation that I'm going to do often!

Liked: Cleanliness
Just as we remember it but under new ownership. I missed the personalization of the founder Valerie Pickles. She would stop by at breakfast and greet the visitors. I heard the new owner wasn’t feeling well so we didn’t get to meet her.
The wonderful included breakfast did not include the signature pickle on the Ham, cheese and egg burrito. Now it was scrambled eggs but just as good. Jamaica juice, some fruit and good strong coffee too!
The grounds are lush and so well established. Always a good nights sleep in the thatched roof bungalows!
I miss the binder of recommendations that also included history on the place. We miss you Valerie but send good wishes to the new owner. What a gem the Pickled Onion is!
We ate dinner there twice- margaritas were a bit sour for my liking, and the empanada appetizer was cold both nights. But the food is good and worth stopping by for!
