We stayed here for a week while visiting our daughter who lived nearby. The staff were friendly, and polite. No problem with communication even though I do not speak Japanese. I really enjoyed their breakfast buffet. The view of the mountains from the room can't be beat. I agree with one review that said the toilet in the reception is the best toilet I have been to in Japan, as crazy as that may sound. Highly recommend!

Incredible experience at Suzukiya Ryokan! Staff is incredible! They speak some English and you can communicate perfectly fine with all of them. They are so incredibly kind and welcoming! The room was very traditional with straw mats, room dividers, very comfortable beds on the floor. Hot spring baths indoors as well as outdoors were absolutely fantastic! Absolutely adore Kappa no Yado, and I still daydream of being in Togatta. 10/10 an absolutely beautiful experience. Every staff member was kind, helpful and thoughtful throughout our honeymoon. The grounds have a heartbeat, with hot spring water flowing through the town, bubbling forth rich life. The sounds of bear bells jingling in the street. The glow of modern Japan meets rural Japan in small notable ways.

The hotel staff was wonderful to me and my friend though they could not speak much English they tried their best to show us around the hotel and personally showed us to our room.
