"I don’t recommend this hotel. Our room had zero ventilation so it got very hot and stuffy at night. There was no fan or ac so it was hard to sleep. There was zero housekeeping and when I needed items like toilet paper or a towel I had to find someone at the front desk - most of the time staff was no where to be found and the front desk was unattended. Recently hopped around Costa Rica staying at 7 hotels/hostels. I am talking about premium beach front hotels here and Pensión Santa Elena was decidedly our favorite. Not only was it an extremely affordable room but the service was unbeatable. It is a hostel, so expect a diy wash-your-own-mug type feel. My family's stay at Nafre House over the winter holiday was wonderful. The bed and breakfast is a perfect location for anyone visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and the surrounding area, the rooms were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the staff were unfailingly gracious and helpful, in both English and our attempts at Spanish. They even brought us a New Year's Eve gift. We would recommend Nafre House to anyone visiting this beautiful area.

The view from the hotel is incomparable! You can have a very nice breakfast (free) surronded by a breatiful garden while the volcano is right in front of you! There is also a rose garden in the backyard of the hotel. Although it's named as garden, it is really an epitome of larger rain forest! Very nice!!!!! A lot of humming birds!
