The Old Post Office, Private Parking & Garden
Summary:
Dating back to the 1860s, this beautiful cottage has had a fresh new lease of life since its days as the village Post Office and store. It sits in a quiet, leafy lane in St Mawgan surrounded by peaceful countryside and wildlife. The village centre is under 100 metres away and you are just a five minute drive from the renowned beaches of Watergate Bay and Bedruthan Steps.
The Space:
The three bedroom cottage has been renovated throughout to a high-standard, whilst still in-keeping plenty of its original features and period charm. The spacious living room boasts exposed beams, wooden floors and a cast iron fireplace surround. There is plenty of space to relax with lovely big sofas for weary limbs and a smart TV for movie nights. Next door, the modern kitchen has been finished with style and has everything you need to prepare leisurely holiday meals, such as: a large six-ring electric hob and oven, built-in microwave, coffee machine, dishwasher, and butler sink! In the cooler months, enjoy feasting in the dining room with a fire roaring, whilst in summer, head out into the spacious garden to prepare dinners on the charcoal barbecue (The BBQ is available for use from April to October). The well-kept family bathroom with a bathtub and a shower is also found on the ground floor, plus there is an additional WC.
Upstairs, three bedrooms sleep six guests in total. One of the bedrooms boasts a super king bed (which can be separated into two single beds), as well as an additional king size bedroom and one bedroom. All have been kitted out with homely furnishings and plenty of storage to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. You can also enjoy bucolic views of the surroundings from the comfort of your bed and there's no better way to enjoy a morning cup of tea! Private parking available for 2 vehicles. We welcome a maximum of 1 dog at this property unless agreed.
The cottage is located in a quiet, leafy road in St Mawgan, just a short 100m away from the village. In under five minutes walk you can reach the local pub, Falcon Inn, which is a quaint watering hole serving food and drinks. In summer, the large pub garden is a great spot to end a busy day out on the coast.
Despite its rural location, the cottage is a five minute drive to some of Cornwall’s most-loved beaches. Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth are lifeguarded all year round, with excellent surfing and bodyboarding activities as well as brilliant restaurants right on the water’s edge. At Watergate Bay, we would recommend visiting the hotel for cream teas overlooking the surf and Emily Scott food for fine dining at sunset. Perched on the cliff edge overlooking Mawgan Porth is the stunning Scarlet Hotel, which offers spa and lunch packages. Meanwhile, in under 10 minutes is the famous Bedruthan Steps: a must-visit for coastal walks and seal spotting!
The South-West coastal path is one of the first of its kind in the world and offers amazing walking routes along Cornwall’s dramatic coastline. From the cottage, you can set off from the door in your walking boots and head towards the coast, where paths take you in either direction. Garden lovers should also visit the nearby Japanese Garden, which is a nod to the country’s authentic garden design and in the most tranquil of settings.

Getting Around:
We would recommend bringing a car to make the most of your stay here and there are two dedicated parking spots in front of the cottage. That said, the cottage is close to Newquay airport (with direct flights to London) as well as Newquay train station for guests who need to use public transport. Taxis are readily available from both. There is also a regular bus service which runs through the village.
Other Things to Note:
The Old Post Office is a charming, period property full of quirks and character. This also means there are elements of the layout guests should be aware of before booking. Bedroom 3 is accessed via a separate staircase. Both staircases are narrow and steep and so it is likely not appropriate for those with mobility issues. We have a stairgate which will fit any of the door frames but it won't fit across the stairs because they are too narrow. Furthermore, the bathroom is found on the ground floor.
A maximum of 1 well-behaved dog is welcome with a fee of £20. It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms, are cleaned up after and are not left in the property unattended.
*Please note* 9th - 12th August we have a local festival at Watergate Bay called Boardmasters. The traffic can be extra busy during this period in Newquay and there may be some echo noises from the live performances.
The BBQ is available for use from April to October.

We really enjoyed our stay - the cottage is cosy yet has three good sized rooms and lots of character. Clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Perfect location for exploring Padstow, Newquay, Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay.
Excellent location in the middle of St. Mawgan, just 100 metres from village shop, tea rooms and delightful pub (serving great food). The house was very clean, cosy and beautifully decorated. Only a five-minute drive to the wonderful beach at Mawgan Porth.
it was a lovely cottage although the photos were misleading as it looked a lot bigger in the photos than in real life! The cottage was comfy and easy to live in, the parking spaces ere on the opposite side of the road but it wasn't a major problem as the road was quite quiet.
We have stayed at a lot cottage over the years . To be honest it’s never as good as you expect. But this is the exception . It has been thought out through out . A lovely house with a modern twist. We love it . And return this year. Thank you
Lovely place to stay, only problem was that the oven didn't work and we didn't realise until the last night we stayed there. I'm sure this will be fixed ASAP!
Also, be careful on the road outside, there was some dangerous driving by boy racers as the pub was near closing time.
The welcome pack was an utterly lovely surprise and much appreciated! And the staff at the local shop and pub are very friendly. We recommend this accomodation
Very comfortable & attractively presented cottage. It has everything you would need & we felt very much at home. St Mawgan has a useful shop, a very good pub & a couple of cafes. It’s a 30 to 40 minute walk along a very pleasant path to the beach so a really good option if you want a quiet base for exploring the area.
There is a decent sized courtyard garden which was secure & not overlooked. We visited in late September so we didn’t get much sun in the garden but I’m sure in the summer months it would a lovely sun trap.
One thing to note is that the front door opens directly onto the not particularly busy road but something to be aware of if you have pets or young children.
Would be happy to return or recommend to others.
