"Hung up in unbelievable traffic in Santa Cruz, I was not able to check into the hotel until 7 AM the next day when they reopened. So I don't have the overnight experience one expects. That said, the room was very clean, the shower had good hot water, and I did get a morning nap on the bed. Fort7nately, it is off the road a bit. But noise carries and young Costa Ricans love their motorcycles. So if you are super noise sensitive that might bother you, but the traffic is really light on that...

"Came here as part of a family trip and honestly wasn't sure what to expect from a boutique hotel tucked into the jungle. Left completely blown away. The staff is what sets this place apart, from the front desk to the restaurant team ā€” is genuinely warm. Not "hotel-trained warm," but actually present and attentive. They remember your name, they check in on you, and they do it without being intrusive, they go above and beyond on multiple occasions. You feel like a guest in someone's home, not a room number. The food at Almar is seriously no joke. I've eaten at some great spots and this restaurant punched above its weight in a big way. Chef Hugo puts real thought and care into every plate ā€” local ingredients, clean flavors, beautiful presentation. And breakfast every morning was something I actually looked forward to. We ate there every single morning and never got tired of it. The daily yoga class was a nice surprise too. I don't have a regular practice at home but I showed up most mornings and it genuinely added something to the trip. The instructors know what they are doing and makes it accessible no matter your level. Hard to beat starting your day with that, surrounded by jungle. The vibe here is intentional ā€” slow, calm, adults only. If you're looking for a party hotel, this isn't it. But if you want to actually decompress, eat really well, and be taken care of by people who actually seem to enjoy what they do ā€” ESH is the one."
