"Koyasan Eko-in Escape busy Tokyo or Osaka for this calming, welcoming and nurturing town of Koyasan. You’ll be warmly greeted regardless of what shops you enter or which temple you stay in. However, I must say that the team at Eko-in really goes above and beyond to make for an incredible experience from start to finish. They guide you step by step upon check-in and let you know what to expect along the way. Things not to be missed: -4:30 pm guided meditation -In-room massage therapy by monks -7pm cemetery walk (if it doesn’t rain, ours got cancelled due to weather) -7am morning prayer -7:30am fire ritual Cannot recommend highly enough!! 🏯🍜🎋📿"

"My family had a truly amazing stay here. One of the best experiences of our trip through Japan. The temple and surrounding area is beautiful. The staff spoke excellent English and the vegetarian food was great. Get up for the morning prayers if you can. "

"Excellent Ryokan that has been well maintained and cared for given its long history. The old facility is evident and yet despite that, provided a cosy stay. The host was extremely warm and welcoming and showed the hospitality as one would expect from a traditional Ryokan passed down from decades old. The kaiseki meal at additional cost were delicious and well worth it. Frankly not much around the area and as the host put it best: come, relax and enjoy what the moment has to offer without the hustle and bustle. Fun fact: the hotel has the only elevator in the whole area. "

"An incredible experience from the moment you enter. The welcome greetings and experience with the entire staff is amazing. They are incredibly welcoming and genuine. The rooms are very traditional Japanese and are gorgeous. The food is excellent and the service of the food is really unique and incredible with dinners in your room. "The experience was what we expected. Very Japanese, quiet with beautiful gardens. They changed our booking from a room for 6 to three rooms for 2 each and had a nice garden view. The dinner was surprisingly very good with all vegetable dishes but quite diverse texture and taste. We enjoyed our stay. "

"The shuttle feature is great from the train station, although you need to plan ahead due to its limited availability. Taxi to the property was inexpensive and affordable from the train station as well. On suite onsen and private bath is a must have feature with a clear view to the river below and the forest. Dinner serve in room was beyond exceptional. Breakfast was a little disappointing but still good. Definitely making this place an annual tradition to revisit every time we're back in Japan."

"This was a wonderful traditional ryokan temple stay. The food was excellent. The onsen was tranquil. The room was spacious and futons very comfortable. The english speaking gentleman (who worked w the temple) was knowledgeable, passionate and eager to answer questions. "
